    Five Years Retired: Lessons Learned

Thought I’d better say something to see how the response worked. I’m enjoying the new software and do not see many ads. I just increase my viewing screen a little and the right hand column hides from my view. Work very nicely from my IPad.

Do you want to manage it?

I used to travel, making arrangements thru a travel agent. Now, I just don’t travel any more. There comes a time when the hassle just doesn’t make sense any longer, for me anyway. My cooking has changed too. I used to make recipes that used multiple ingredients and spices. I cooked meat that...

Do you want to manage it?

I’m a long time member, however, I’ve not posted in years. When my husband died, 18 years ago, we were in the process of transferring our investments to a management firm. I have always wondered if my husband knew he was dying at the time. Anyway, I am grateful for that decision, one less...

Bank Accounts - How Many Do You Have?

I have a checking and savings account at my credit union. I also have an account at Wells Fargo, but, that account only holds my credit card. I used to have more at Wells Fargo but I became a little irritated when they kept increasing their charges. I use that lonely WF credit card mostly for my...

What have you read recently? 2009 -2020

I just now finished reading “A Prayer for Owen Meany” a novel by John Irving. I’ve had this book on my reading list for quite some time, but, I just now read it. I like John Irving’s writing style, it’s very well written and it keeps your interest all the way to the end. The book has some very...

    open kitchen: yes or no?

I love my small and open kitchen. Like some other posters, I have a raised counter in front of my sink to partially hide the dirty dishes while sitting at the table. The raised counter also serves as a buffet when having family dinners.

    Where we grew up.

Same for me with the first house I lived in, in Nebraska. It was such a small town, but I have great childhood memories from there. The second house, after we moved to another small but larger town, in Nebraska, is pictured in Zillow but all I can see is the front door. They need trim their...

Question about the economy, stock market, and near future

I like that picture from Axios. It looks like the stores that didn’t adapt to the new world eventually were left behind. Walmart really has adapted over time.

    Do you exercise your brain?

I do a lot of reading especially on subjects I know nothing about. I used to enjoy magazines but haven’t purchased many in the last few years. I can find some good digital ones once in awhile.

    Thankful for History...

Yes it’s an exciting time with all the new technologies and advancements in science, it’s mind boggling. Just think of how things have changed over time especially in the boomer generation. I’m excited to see what comes next.

    Netflix movie or show suggestion

I started 1983 but there were places that captions didn’t work. My guess is that they temporarily began speaking Russian instead of Polish and it messed up the captions. So I missed out on a big chunk of dialogue. I gave up.

Sleep. For a nightcap, which is healthier: alcohol or marijuana? if you need chemical

Same here. If it was legal I would like some CBD oil with a bit of THC. Second sleep. That’s probably my regular sleeping pattern. https://www.sciencealert.com/humans-used-to-sleep-in-two-shifts-maybe-we-should-again

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

I’ve been on a Cuba kick lately. I really liked Cuba and the Cameraman on Netflix. The same cameraman visited Cuba over a 40 year span. He made friends with several people and would revisit them every time he went back. He interviewed Castro several time over those 40 years too. Very eye opening...

How much do you spend on Groceries?

That sounds like me too. I used to cook more but not anymore. After cooking for so many years, it just seem like too much work for one person. I don’t eat much meat anymore either. I think when my husband was alive, I always tried to please him with the meat. Now I don’t buy hardly any.
