I "made" $65K today. Why am I having a hard time donating to charity???

Well done on the charitable work and giving, making a better world. Congrats on doing well financially and wishing you continued success. After watching a few people we know well do very well financially and watching how they conduct themselves has led us to a few tweaks to our lifestyle as we...

Are "online only" bank deposits "safe"?

Good point and one that is being ignored or at best, barely addressed, in the mainstream outlets I've seen. Another item that added to the SVB issue was they had a robust API which allowed the run to happen at a rate not seen in previous bank runs. https://developer.svb.com/

Are "online only" bank deposits "safe"?

As others have stated have no issues with online banks and in my case USAA has been good for our family. As to OPs concern I do not think the Fed properly understands the risks by the introduction of FedNow. Recommend mitigating as much risk as possible via distributed accounts. For example...

What do you take for high blood pressure?

Maybe ask your doc what is different about BP in US vs UK or for that matter what about the WHO https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/risk-factors/high-blood-pressure https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/hypertension Not sure about your specific circumstances but chronic pain...

6 Uncomfortable retirement truths you need to know about.

Personally use a catch-all meaning it is possible to make on-the-fly email addresses which are site specific. It is great when you're out and you can say storenamedotcom@mydomain.com. They all arrive in my inbox but I can create rules to delete or perform some specific action when the come in...

What do you take for high blood pressure?

Agreed. Could be the sauces as well or many other factors. For the record I just made up what actual red meat they were eating as it didn't state other than the serving size (in oz).

What do you take for high blood pressure?

Glad to hear things have settle down for you and best wishes on continued normalcy. On your previous comment about your step dad as you mentioned he chose some negative lifestyle choices that we cannot say with certainty but it would not be outside of the realm of possibilities contributed to...

What do you take for high blood pressure?

My situation is similar to aaronc879 and Ronstar. Decades ago when I was in the military and in great shape my BP was right on the line by the standards at the time. No idea what is was prior to the military because I don't recall ever having it done. Have only taken medicine for a short time in...

My son wants to me to help pay for his very expensive wedding? How much?

Late to the party but a hard no. One of my brothers had this type of wedding (probably over $100K and that was 10+ years ago) and the wife came from money. They're happily married over a decade but they live a pretty significant lifestyle that is heavily subsidized by the wife's father along...

What is your Base Housing Cost for 2022 (Tax + Insurance + HOA) w/o mortgage?

Interesting, if I'm reading correctly you're using an umbrella policy in lieu of a homeowners policy. Need to read the small print for my carrier because I would have thought they required that insurance prior to the umbrella taking effect.

Success on 900 calories a day?

No, having dropped weight for competitions to make my weight class I'd say it was rarely "enjoyable" and focused on other things. Just kept busy so I thought about food less and did teas and lemon flavored waters. You could just go all out and do "The Machinist" diet that Christian Bale did and...

    The Cryptocurrency Thread 2

Last I saw the ruble was not included but the Yuan is in basket. It is not an issue of trust, hence the need to diversify. Much like an Index fund of currencies or am I misunderstanding your point? <https://www.imf.org/en/About/Factsheets/Sheets/2016/08/01/14/51/Special-Drawing-Right-SDR> Was...

    The Cryptocurrency Thread 2

Based on a very long timeline the USD reserve status is getting to a point that would not be out of the realm to not be the global currency anymore. The competing CBDC is interesting but also think a SDR (Special Drawing Rights) might be a little more attractive due to its diversified nature.

Where to park money that is not needed for 10-15 years?

Lots of good advice so will not double up. Would put 5-10% in BTC (Bitcoin) via a Coinbase/CoinbasePro Account.

Thanks, you all are funny and I can relate. Notice that my bulk paper towels have less sheets per package and am bothered by the drop in quantity but a 5% -10% drop in portfolio.... : yawn :
