Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

Well it has been suggested by someone not on this forum who has had many years experience in the public service that it might be a better idea to go back to school and get a further qualification so that I can improve my ranking on the merit list. See I am trying to think about it logically in...

Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

I don't know sometimes they just put you and that's where you stay to my knowledge. Advancing in the admin is not likely to get you the skills to advance to and investigative or research officer position. There will be heaps of other people that want the same job who are better qualified so you...

Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

No that is all correct, I was just hoping to clarify a few things. I'm usually the one to get labeled as anti education in these sort of conversations. I think you're right, I should just knuckle down.

Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

Yeah I understand that mbooth, you don't need to tell me twice that I know nothing which is essentially why I am here asking for advice. The assumption I made, which was what I thought everyone would understand, is that I don't expect to be making any policy decisions. I was hoping to be doing...

Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

I've calmed myself down. My only concern now is that if I take this job and continue my education after a year or two that this job will serve as a sort of black mark and make it difficult for me to get into a more technical role. My plan is to study some Econometrics online and then do a...

All APS jobs are like that, you do overtime you get to take time off. Even the high level jobs are set up that way. Not sure about executive level positions, maybe they're different, but I have never seen a policy officer position that is at the executive level.

Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

I understand no graduate is doing meaningful policy work. What is concerning is that the area I am in does not do it at all.

Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

I originally wanted to work for DEWR. Treasury would be my first pick but it isn't realistic at this stage. I'm with DOHA so I'll aim to become a health Economist. Being honest I'm not really confident I have the ability to work for a merchant bank or anything like that interms of interpersonal...

Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

Thank you for the advice I apologize for my abrupt attitude. The first problem is that I am used to getting bullshitted by employers. I don't trust them. They usually say you have career prospects and room to move around in just about anything. Usually it is within a very limited area. I...

Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

Thank you for the reply. I know it was only a joke but it still wasn't a very nice thing to say. You gotta be careful with stuff like that because people are sensitive and you can really cause a lot of harm to someone's day. Personally I couldn't give a damn, but just saying. Seriously, I need...

Would I be able to ask for some advice please.

I am in need of some advice if anyone is willing to offer. I have gained a place in what we call a 'Graduate Program' with the an Australian government department. What it is, is a job open to people who have a degree but little work experience that serves as an entry level program for new...

    Anyone know about Superannuation ?

I had this plan to retire at age 55 by making small savings contributions and super from a government job (15.4% income) with an additional 5% salary sacrifice. Starting salary of around 50k plus super... seemed like a good idea or a good goal to work towards. After 30 years I would have a small...

    Question for Americans

    3. Tipping is our way of reminding those people who receive it that they are lower on the pecking order and should get a better job. In countries that pay people a living wage in such jobs they stay there all their lives and hold back the growth potenital of the country. Thomas Edison and Bill...

    Question for Americans

The idea of tipping certainly is intriguing. I would not want to work for tips here. As I understand wages are much lower in the United States for retail and services workers. Not attacking it - thats your culture you do as you please. Just curious as to whether one would be better off as a...
