Best way to transfer large sum between banks?

It's not the CTR's that end up on some Fed's desk ... thousands of CTR's get filed daily .... it's the SAR that the bank generates without your knowledge if/when you appear to be withdrawing or attempting to deposit/withdraw cash in such a manner so as to avoid the filing of a CTR. CTR's only...

Willie Nelson still doing it his way

If you are looking for an "authoritarian" then you need to first look in the mirror & then go down to the mall or town square & look in the faces of your fellow citizen voters, Ha. It's up to the voters via their elected representatives to decide what the law will be - it's the duty of the...

Willie Nelson still doing it his way

I've quit posting on this board, but still read it from time to time & can't help but comment on this one. As a former Border Patrol Agent who has actually worked freeway checkpoints and made drug busts large & small, and as a non-pot smoker but advocate of legalization of marijuana (with some...

Where and how do you get your news?

I get all of my news from FOX, MSNBC, & ER.org because they are fair and balanced and non-partisan.

    Pledge to America

Sorry, I allowed myself to be derailed [moderator edit] and forgot to get back to you. As to your comment alluding to the voting habits of government employees, if you are saying what I think you are saying (OK, I won't make you say it out loud) I wonder how valid the surveys are as to that...

I see nothing has changed with you, then. Perhaps you could stick with the topics at hand in the thread instead of attempting to make my presence one of them?

    Pledge to America

I made no promise to you nor anyone else when I left off posting on here a while back. Apparently you are wishing I had and that I had kept it? My last post on this particular thread was questioning clarification of a statement Ha made that seemed to be a generalization about the voting habits...

    Pledge to America

No, I don't know what that means and I was a government worker for over 25 years and active duty military for 4. What does it mean, Ha? *

(emphasis added) I agree. This is the standard that should be applied by all moderators.

    Tea parties on Apr. 15...

How is this topic "FIRE related" i.e. "directly related to financial independence or retirement"? (except perhaps veeeery tangentially depending on one's personal political 'suasion) It's certainly political - particularly the Krugman link. [/B] [/COLOR]

What will the the future of www.early-retirement.org ?

What will the the future of www.early-retirement.org ? The future of the ER forum lies with the moderators - not the owners or the content. And not even the ads, the trolls, the spammers, or rude/offensive people. (The latter are always in abundance on the internet & moderators will always be...

What will the the future of www.early-retirement.org ?

After a little more than a year on this forum - this will be my last post. I'll probably be spending a little more time on Scubatoys forum, ScubaBoard, & the NTCoF forum. Thanks for all the good info & laughs and hopefully I have contributed something as well that informed someone or made...

    Hi, I am my401

Welcome to the board :greetings10: When you get a chance it'd be nice if you can inform the board on whatever details you care to share (i.e. age, situation, & how you managed to achieve FIRE.) We all learn from each other's experiences here. (BTW - Texarkana, TX sounds like a great place...

For Those Considering an ER option...

Per current regulations - the max ER incentive that can be offered to federal employees is 25k. Wouldn't be enough (after taxes) to influence my decision of when to go. (just thought I'd add that little tidbit to the thread - it's really academic to me anyway as the chance is zilch of any...

Pension Funds - the next bail out.

Teacher & LE pensions in TX don't seem to be near as generous as what you describe randyman65. (DW is a teacher) But then you are talking about NY & CA which are among a certain number of locales known by me as "the usual suspects" in this entire financial debacle we are undergoing. Perhaps...

All Cash? Low Equity? Got out Early? -- Post Here

I was 100% in the TSP "C" fund (S&P 500 index) for years. I took notice of the subprime warnings early on & was becoming increasingly aware of how close I was getting to my hoped for ER date (09 or 10) I guess you could say my risk tolerance changed - so I went 100% into the "G" (Treasuries)...

Pension Funds - the next bail out.

In having this conversation we should remember that all public pensions are not the same and cannot be painted with the same broad brush. Some city/state public pension systems are very responsible. Some are not and made wild promises to employees & their unions. (blame your legislators)...

Why Haven't Car Prices Fallen as Far as Houses?

So to answer the OP question: Why Haven't Car Prices Fallen as Far as Houses?" Housing markets can be heavily influenced by local factors. New cars pretty much cost the same no matter where in the US you buy them regardless of local factors.

Why Haven't Car Prices Fallen as Far as Houses?

Unlike new cars - housing markets are very local. How big was the bubble in residential lots in the "Texas Hill Country" in the past 8 years? No doubt there was a bit of one - but how much of a percentage of the average new home value was affected by the increase/decrease in land prices?
