2 years of real estate taxes?

As to the mortgage payments, it absolutely shows up on your 1098. I've done it many times and others will back that up. As long as you're clear to your mortgage company that you are paying January's payment and not sending in an extra principal payment. As for the taxes, yeah I think both...

2 years of real estate taxes?

In another discussion, someone mentioned that they bunch 13 mortgage payments and 2 years of real estate taxes in a single year. As I am already doing the former, I would like to know more about the latter. I guess the biggest question is are you paying late and delaying paying year 1's tax...

    Anyone watching the America's Cup?

I've been watching and love it. The mistake in Race 8 was awe inspiring to see. Too bad we're so far behind, it's an extremely uphill battle to defend the cup.

    Milestone Twofer

Well I just checked and it's confirmed, I have a double milestone this month. First, NW broke $200k. I think the more important one though is that our pure retirement accounts broke $100k! They are about a 50/50 split between Roth and Traditional funds. I'm very glad we were able to...

    Retirement vehicles and tax brackets

I was hoping for more precise guidance than that. ie. we are currently in the 25% tax bracket, but down the road she'll be at home with a kid or two and brackets will widen and we should be in a lower bracket; therefore traditional now and roth later (if we still qualify and it is still available)

    Retirement vehicles and tax brackets

Does the tax bracket you'll be paying in have any impact on whether to stock your money in Roth or Traditional IRA accounts. I'll be able to start using a 401k next year (first check), so you can weigh in on the best options when that is considered too. Info: I make 60k, she makes 38k - both...

    Roth Accounts vs. EFund

This is basically what I was hoping for. This phased plan outlines very well what I had going on in my head. Thanks for articulating it for me. Let me quick chime in on these in order (I'm 24...) 1. 0% personal contribution required to get match! 2. My 401k does not have good investments and...

    Roth Accounts vs. EFund

Well I have a plan currently that is splitting the monies, but the Roths won't get maxed out this way. Is there a fallacy with the thinking that come every April, if you have not maxed your Roth account, you should finish it off using money from your emergency fund.

    Roth Accounts vs. EFund

If you have $1200 a month to allocate to two Roths and an Emergency fund, how would you do it? Include timing... Aka, max out Roth fast and furiously early and then build Efund.

Poll-What Are Your Favorite Mature Greens?

umm I have no idea what the question is, the only thing I recognize on that list is mustard. Mustard, however, for me is a yellow condiment and not a green. Green things I eat are lettuce, spinach, asparagus, sugar snap peas, and green beans. Also, reading through the list, they sound like...

Cracked open a nice box of wine

Only some municipalities are city run (Edina and Eden Prairie as far as I know). On drive-through stores... Do they put it in your trunk for you? Since alcohol can't be in the cabin of the vehicle, they would have to or they would be liable for your crime. Similar to serving a drunk at a bar.

    OK, what does this mean?

I would like to point out something though. A house can, and should be, included iff (not a typo) you plan on downgrading your housing situation in retirement. Some people definitely do use a house as a means to save up some money (equity) and then they sell it and buy a smaller house or rent.

Cracked open a nice box of wine

okay must be a MN thing then. I'm guessing your gas stations can sell liquor and kegs too right? Our can't - only weak sauce unless you have a liquor store license.

That only got them equal to grocery stores which is only weak wine coolers and week beer. Not wine and such.

    Your Typical Checkbook Balance

You could always get a Cashier's Check or a Money Order instead. If you talk to your branch manager, you could probably explain the situation and get the fee, if any, waived for consistent customer courtesy.

    Your Typical Checkbook Balance

seriously? well my paychecks go directly to savings, then the day before bills go out (the 1st) enough goes in to cover them including all my transfers to sinking funds accounts, and then on the 1st it all goes out. So all but two days of the month it's at $0.00! If I need money in a hurry, I...

    iPod nano vs. classic

the flash they are using is quality stuff so the nano might be a good idea remember though how flash memory works, it only will write a few thousand times but read near indefinitely. that means that if you change your music you are carrying a lot the hard drive may be better, but if you're a...
