2025 Tax Software deals - For April 2026 Filing

I used TT Deluxe and imported 1099's from Vanguard, Fido, Merrill and WF without any issue (used Premier in the last few years).

This is my first year with HRB deluxe and I'm finding it a bit odd but I have almost nothing to enter and it is all manual so I hope it works in the end. I had to call for help to claim the download but I will say they got me a person quite fast and it was a weekend.

The comparison grid shows that TT Deluxe does imports but nevertheless Intuit tries to imply that you should upgrade. HRB does the same. I'm trying to use both this year as an experiment. HRB imported stock sales showing the number of shares with about 8 zeros to the right of the decimal and a cusip instead of a ticker. IDK if the IRS cares. My biggest problem with HRB is trying to enter my state quarterly estimated tax payments. TT does have noticeably more clicking of boxes FWIW.

I got my final consolidated 1099 from Fido this weekend and tried two approaches.

1) Went to FreeTaxUSA's (FTU) website and did my federal return online without filing.

2) Used Fido's free offer of TurboTax Premier online and did my federal return there (with Win 10 because I don't want to upgrade to Win 11).

Final results were identical. No savings were missed by either app. Since I am a Nevada resident for tax purposes, there was no state return to file.

Comparing the two apps the TT return contained more sales detail on stocks and options I traded whereas FTU simply attached my consolidated 1099 to the return while reporting only the summary totals in the schedule forms. TT had more upselling throughout the process although FTU also had it in a few places.

I e-filed the TT prepared return and it was accepted by the IRS a few hours later.

Bottom line - If in the future I don't get the free TT offer from Fido, I will try FTU again, since there appears to be no difference in the final results on a modestly complex return with lots of investment activity.

TT is much more print friendly or I missed a checkbox cause I ended up with 56 pages on HRB instead about 10 like I expected. (I print returns and key calculations). I was printing away from home and paying for it so could not go back and look for an "undo".

I always print to pdf. Stopped physically printing my tax returns years ago.

Well, procrastination has caught me... I did not buy a tax software as I needed a new computer for TurboTax...

Now there are NO sales that I can find...

Guess I have to pay full retail... oh well...

TT Deluxe Fed+State is currently 30% off at $55.99 on amazon

Or are you talking about a sale price on the computer?
