2025 Travel Plans

We're starting to solidify some plans to start at Glacier NP after DD goes off to college. We have been there before, but not in September, and head south through Yellowstone then the Grand Tetons, then ?? Any suggestions for continuing in a southerly or westerly direction from there? And like the name says, we're camping people.

Drive to the west coast next month 7-10 days.

DW flies east for ten days next week to visit family.

5-6 weeks in S. Europe (TBD) in mid Sept-Oct.

2 weeks or so in either Zihautanejo or Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in late November/early December.

Headed to Bhutan in a couple days for the Laya Gasa trek. $FIRE$ June 13! Summer time we'll do a couple backpack trips, one to Eagle Glacier Cabin in Juneau then ferry/drive up to the Yukon Territories for a backpack in the Tombstone Mountains and the Dawson City music festival. Ferry trip from Juneau to Bellingham then a week long road trip to Colorado to help transport my son's truck for his first year of college. Alaska State Fair in Palmer. Hopefully a hiking trip to Southern UT in October. November we're headed to Japan for a couple weeks mainly to do the Kunisaki Trek.

If heading south into Utah both Zion and Bryce NP's are worth a visit, the north rim of the Grand Canyon isn't too far away and well worth a visit. Did some camping in Yellowstone many years ago and have to say we never got comfortable, seemed everywhere you turned there were warnings about bears so hard not to be constantly thinking about it.

We already did Paris and Switzerland this year… next week a Caribbean cruise. Followed by a house rental on a canal with a pool, NYC long weekend in May and a few weeks at our country house.

August there is a great theatre festival in Scotland and some friends will come and join us since the house exchange is quite large.. then 4 weeks in the South of France to feel what living there might be like.

We live where the seasons are reversed so by the time we get home in Sept it will be spring here. Realized if not now when as we sure ain’t getting any younger? Still in our go go years of retirement but various physical issues are making it a go slow even if I want to go go. All l too soon enough it will be no go if I don’t fix some issues so surgery, and rehab are part of the future plans and we don’t tend to use the hospitals where we live so sadly willl waste travel time and money on some doctors this year!

Booked a ride on the California Zephyr in August. Skipping the first day, so catching the train in Denver. Flight booked to Denver, but researching the flight back. What is the best airport in terms of one-way to DFW, and how to get there from Emeryville? Any forum expertise appreciated.

Blowing some dough on travel.

Rome2Rio can probably help. Use Google Flights and maybe Southwest to pick the best flights for you. SW has non-stops to DFW out of OAK and SMF but unless you spend the night, the schedule's are pretty tight. AA has a non-stop out of SFO leaving at around midnight.

Thanks! I wanted to stay with AA due to miles, so I’ll take BART to SFO. Staying the night in Emeryville, since arrival is almost 5PM, and I wanted to leave room for invariable delays. I’m leaving lots of fudge factor in all reservations, aside from rising early in Denver to catch the train at 8:46, and a fairly early start to catch the train to SFO.

And to BTD, first class on both flights.

I leave Saturday for my 3-week trip to the UK. I’ll spend some time in Bath (England), Llandudno (Wales), York (England), Glasgow and Edinburgh (Scotland). I have day trips set up for Wells and Durham (England), northern Wales, Stirling and St. Andrews (Scotland). I have enough time in London at the tail end to visit the Churchill War Rooms before heading back home. All the major travel is via train. I’m really looking forward to the trip!

Just added another trip for this year. Going to Vegas to see Dead and Company at the sphere.

Doubt we'll add any more trips to our 2025 schedule. Actively working on 2026 travel plans.

Wife was commited to musical rehearsals from last October until the performance this last March. Promptly flew to DFW for my brother's birthday. Will be going back there in July to catsit for them.

Last week we, for some reason, started looking at other travel plans. One thing led to another and we ended up booking a South American cruise. We will be on the Sapphire Princess in December, which is the same ship we were on the last time we cruised, which was 2007 in Alaska! 18 years between cruises.

Since we are going near to other 'bucket list' items now we have managed to tack on three other side-trips: Iguazu Falls, Easter Island, and Machu Picchu for my 65th birthday! Trip is starting to feel a bit expensive...

I am considering another Brazil paramotor trip...this time to the Amazon. Yacht charter for a small group of pilots.

Here's a boring 2 minute clip from beach flight from a week ago. Boring, but it's a 360 degree video, so you can "look" straight up or straight down.

Bought the airfare for our first trip to Italy in late September.
Now the fun planning part!
We just came back from Italy. It was a great trip. Which regions are you planning to visit? We were in Sorrento, Florence and Rome on this trip. It was all awesome. Let me know if you need any advice/ recommendations for these areas.

We had our one week trip to Vancouver Island and have no more plans, beyond camping away from fireworks for the 4th of July. I need to stay home and work on the house.
Our UK friends and NY friends are coming out west in Aug. and Sept.
The camping idea is simple. $30 a night at one of two nearby county campgrounds in the non-reservation section.
I'll drive down there several days in advance and secure a nice spot and keep it for a week. I can keep checking until one of the really premium ones opens up.

Going to Northern Territory in Australia in late July for 3 weeks and will ride the famous Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin.

Just got back yesterday from Brussels and Vienna. I've got a group tour to Greece, Macedonia and Albania booked for October but am about to cancel it. (Tour cost 100% refundable, airline will give me credit.) My cardiac specialists had concluded my mitral valve prolapse is bad enough to justify surgery and I agree- I can feel the deterioration. I get out of breath even on brisk walks. The plan had been to schedule surgery after I get back. Having seen the difference in stamina between my last European trip on October, 2024 and this one I decided I don't want to try and keep up with a tour group for 3 weeks on a very expensive trip or, heaven forbid, have to use the emergency evacuation coverage I always purchase to get airlifted home.

So, I'm calling to set that in motion today- hopefully after a family reunion in SC in mid-July but enough time afterwards to recover before my granddaughters are in The Nutcracker in December (3 hours from me).

I'm looking forward to getting the valve replaced and hopeful about the outcome. Two trips already booked for 2026!

DD is thinking we should take a beach trip in September. We try to take a trip together each year and it’s a tradition I’d like to keep going. We’re thinking either Vietnam, or if we stay closer, somewhere in the Caribbean.

And the place we stay at for our yearly New Year’s ski trip won’t be available this year, so we’re thinking about alternatives. DS is big on Japan, but logistically that might be challenging. I want to look at places in the US, maybe Park City or somewhere in Colorado/Rockies.

A short trip coming up, 5 days in Newport RI, and then 2 days in Cape May NJ. Never been to the latter so only a couple days to see if we should plan on a longer visit. HHI for a week in the Fall likely too.

I just added a long weekend in June to New York City with my two granddaughters (turning 18 and 25) and my DIL. They are very fun to go with.

Once the NFL announces the 2025 schedule, we'll try and plan a trip to watch the GB Packers play at Lambeau. My sister and niece in Colorado want to go. They've never been to a game at Lambeau.

This might be a tricky one due to their penchant for cancelling and different budgets. But we'll see how it goes.

I don't know home base for you, so forgive me if this isn't helpful. The ride down the Turnpike to the Garden State Parkway or if the take the Parkway the entire route can be difficult with traffic starting on Thursday's as we get closer to summer. Obviously, Waze or Google Maps is your friend.

I'm about an hour and half to two hours north of Cape May, and it's a lovely seacoast town. Lots of Victorian Houses and some tours, I think called "the painted ladies." The ferry into Lewes, Delaware is nice too, if you wanted to take a boat ride. Cape May is quiet and you won't have the younger crowds that other beach towns get. 2 days in probably enough.

I live near exit 109 of the GSP, Ping my PM if you're travels allow for a lunch stop.

We just returned from Vegas to Needles to Phoenix to Sedona to Grand Canyon to Monument Valley to Arches (Moab) to Denver. Epic trip. The views in that part of the country are spectacular.

We took over 1,000 photos and I'm not sure which ones to attach. lol

Good luck with the valve replacement! :)
