2025 Travel Plans

We are staying in Dennis, MA on Cape Cod for a family wedding in late May. I will have my 85 year old Mom with me. We will have some downtime and a rental car if anyone has any recommendations for me. I want to visit Cap Cod National Seashore while we are there. I'm excited as I have never been to this area. And happy to go on another trip with my Mom.

We have had 4 consecutive long weekends (3-5 days) of short trips, to Georgia, Florida, New York, and Texas. All combination of family visits or reunion events and some sightseeing. So many short trips can be more exhausting than international trips. The one good thing is that all the flights we took seemed very, very short 😂 .

A ferry to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard.

This is our 3rd year of retirement. We are finally getting our rhythm with travel. 2 trips to WDW (my happy place). DH took a boat building class in Annapolis and I went along. Currently in Punta Cana with youngest daughter. We are visiting Madrid, Marbella and Lisbon for 17 days in September. We would like to do one international trip a year to make up for not being able to travel as much while working.

Just returned from Buffalo River and in a couple weeks we're getting a cabin for the whole DW family in N Georgia mountains for the week. Probably 14 people total. Hopefully low-drama.

Camping was really nice and quiet. Federal campsites were basic but nice. River float was the highlight.

We also upped our travel game in the 3rd year of retirement. Figured out that we had more than enough to live on and health care wasn't going to break us. London and Paris was our first big trip in 2017 - Norwegian Airlines had r/t fares for $600 and we stayed at inexpensive AirBnBs. Absolutely loved it. Vietnam in 2018, Thailand in 2019, and over 40 countries since then. We're currently in Greece and had a very nice 4 night stopover in London. We do lots of organized small-group tours, some cruises, and some independent travel.

Hope you have a wonderful trip to Spain and Portugal. Safe travels!

We visited Buffalo River on a move from Kansas City, MO to Orlando in maybe 1970. Beautiful place. My dad had to practically pry my sister and I out of that river. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Still a great spot. The bluffs & float is great and not all that technical for beginners. Only saw 4 people in the 5 hr float.

My dad kept mentioning wanting to walk a Camino, so I've offered to do that with him this fall. That means canceling Peru for another year. He is going to go on a cruise with mom, and then walk a week or so with me. If we can get the timing coordinated right (our son's graduation from A School in the Navy is in late September) my husband and i could enjoy Portugal for a week, then DH could go home with mom, and I could walk and go home with dad.

Finalized airfare recently for a September trip to Copenhagen, Edinburgh and Amsterdam...about 4 days each. We have been to Amsterdam previously but not the other two cities.

We returned from VA and NYC. Went with DH, sister and brother-in-law and his sister. His sister and I have been friends since 7th grade and had a place together and worked at the same place after high school. It was so nice to be able to spend several days with her. I finally made it to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (I have been to NYC 4 times. We went to Central Park, Times Square and to a Broadway play. Nice getaway.

I'll be in Europe for two months this summer, mostly at our place in the South. But just booked the outline of a two week journey to (mostly) the Baltic states. Estonia (Tallinn), Latvia (Riga), Lithuania (Vilnius), plus Poland (Warsaw). Decide to book independently after considering so many tours. (Just need to finalize the intra-city transfers. Any strong recommendations for these cities?

Thanks! I wanted to stay with AA due to miles, so I’ll take BART to SFO. Staying the night in Emeryville, since arrival is almost 5PM, and I wanted to leave room for invariable delays. I’m leaving lots of fudge factor in all reservations, aside from rising early in Denver to catch the train at 8:46, and a fairly early start to catch the train to SFO.

And to BTD, first class on both flights.
Slight update, and BTD, given recent issues with BART, I’ve booked an UBER from my hotel in Emeryville to SFO. I chose the “professional driver” option, $125.

So, first class to Denver, roomette on AMTRAK, Uber to SFO, first class to DFW. BTD!

Have funds: Have fun :) Nice spending choices.

Our travel plans will be limited to trips to Tucson to buy a house next month and then moving to Tucson in late summer/early fall. We may end up using a Uhaul. I wonder how many queen size mattresses I can fit in the hearse.

No, but I'll be anxious to hear your report afterward. Those are all places I very much want to visit.

Our next little getaway is to Cabo
In mid June.

Just the two of us head out of town for a few days (or more) every few months for what we have come to call our “Quarterly Honeymoon”.

This is one way we keep our 40 year romance going 💝 strong.

In April 2025 we did an eco tour in Costa Rica for 10 days. Most of our time was in the mountains, rainforests and 2 days on the beach where I got food poisoning. An MD and her nurse came to our hotel room with a portable IV fluids, anti-nausea meds and electrolytes. I thought, I don't think I would get this kind of healthcare in the states.

Nov 2025 going to Bologna, IT for the Davis Cup tennis tournament. Will stay in the Dolomites at a quaint spa-like hotel for about 2 weeks. Will visit cities nearby for day trips.

We do most of our travelling in the van pictured in my avatar.

In late-August we're leaving from MN for 5-7 weeks. First we'll head across southern Montana to Idaho, then down through Utah, coming back across Colorado and back to MN. Lots of beautiful places to go. We're considering staying out of the big Nat'l Parks and focusing on BLM land, state parks and public areas.

In December we're heading to Arizona / SoCal for the winter with a planned trek down Baja to Cabo for 2-3 weeks. We've already taken the van to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean, this should be just as epic!

Spending months sequestered in a 72 square foot "home" is a real relationship stress test!
