80% of music I listen to is AI generated - and I like it that way

I have music playing in the background pretty much all day. It's never anything absorbing. And once I found out that there's an endless supply of generic sounding AI tracks out there I started actively seeking them and that's what I choose to play - it's a very conscious decision. I don't think I'm allowed to post details but it's easy enough for anyone interested to find that stuff.

Anyone else? I can absolutely see all these bots creating an abundance of silly romance or crime novels that rarely have any value beyond what they offer in terms of momentary entertainmet.

I'm sure we are all familiar with a staple of streaming movies: a stuck up, overworked and burnt out female executive inherits failing B&B or a winery in a remote country (NZ? Italy? Ireland? France?. She travels there to sell (or renovate) the place and falls for a rugged carpenter that inevitably appears shirtles in the first 10 min of the movie. I'm fairly certain AI can churn five of these things a week, just like it can release hours of chillout sounds.

Some evenings, on the HTPC, I put on a UTube channel called Thinker Lounge. Chill jazzy stuff. Pretty sure it's AI generated but it does just fine and is great "evening chill with an adult beverage" music.

Another, Cocktail Hour Companion, has more upbeat stuff with pretty 1950s animated ladies bopping their heads to the music, with a cocktail in their hand... a flight attendant standing by a plane, spy type at the typical European outdoor cafe, in a space capsule. :LOL:

I've tried to do the same with "real" jazz but it can get too dynamic in the volume range, and trying to find a couple of hours of that each time is a full time job.
 
The fact that AI can successfully replicate modern music, merely means that modern music is crap. Let's see AI try to finish Mahler's 10th symphony, or Schubert's 8th.
 
I think the most disturbing part of this is that none of those are identified as being AI. Users should know what it is they are supporting when they click on a link. I definitely dislike the lack of transparency.

I think you both underestimate the ability of AI music generators and the quality of modern music.

This is changing. Tidal is implementing new rules: all AI music will be clearly identified, there will be no tolerance for music "imitating" other artists and they won't allow for anyone to profit from the AI generated music.

Whatever. I already pay for Claude subscription and find it very useful, I'll be perfectly happy to subscribe to AI only music service so I won't have to weed through new Madonna or Zara Larsson tracks. Obviously I'm being cheeky but in all seriousness: if all I want are hours of beach bar muzak slop, theres nothing better than AI.
 
I only like to listen to music I'm familiar with from the past, that I both enjoy and get a nostalgic effect from listening to it. All current music is crap. lol So, AI is useless for me when it comes to music.

Musak has thankfully died. Young people wouldn't even know what that is.
 
Very interesting! I just listened to some the AI generated music and I like it.
 
I've watched a couple of videos and heard a few pieces of pop-ish music generated by AI. The lyrics are about as banal as some of the worst pop music generated by humans.

You are absolutely right about the lyrics - they can by downright hilarious (especially the whole series from Benetti House outfit about various cocktails; there's rhyme but no reason behind them :) But I only know that because I actually started paying attention at some point, I never actively listened to this kind of pop sound. I compare it to the fragrances hotels sometimes pass through their AC systems: it's just a sound version of that.
 
Eddie Dalton is a favorite of mine. Great voice and lyrics, plus I can actually understand the words he sings. Live concerts may still pay well for the real thing, but recorded music will take a hit for sure. Like sports, musicians pay
is hard to imagine.

I doubt AI can replicate Supertramp or Led Zeppelin.
 
I'm going out of my way to avoid AI gen'd "music", and it's getting harder. I've started filtering mix/playlists by age and not playing anything created within the last 5 years. Even that is cracking as apparently the channel can edit a playlist adding new slop but keeping the original publish date.

The latest trend is "somebody" is taking classic rock and running it through AI + autotune to generate barely changed "remastered" tracks and posting as new. If not paying attention it sounds like the original, but the closer I listen it sounds like a really good cover band (or a recent concert of a band that should have retired 10 years ago).

Meanwhile the original artist is scammed out of the income.
 
AI may have its uses (and I am a skeptic on many of those). But AI can't make create art. It robs. It steals, it borrows, without attribution or credit or payment.

By all means, use it to figure out your best roth conversions, but for art? there are thousands of better options.
