Since we're on drummers, the best drummers I have heard live are Ginge Baker, Gregg Bissonette and......my son (of course!) His favorite heavy medal stuff doesn't work for me, all the rest does:

Buddy Rich. In 1977 our high school jazz band spent spring break in L.A. and performed at the Carnation Plaza in Disneyland. That night we saw Buddy Rich perform in the same place. It's now called Carnation Cafe.
