AJA has a date with a widowed woman tomorrow evening! Needs advice....quickly please!

Tonight at 7 PM, right when the Sunday night NFL game starts.... 😳
Aja, for one evening tonight, you don't look at the TV to follow football, your interest is not with football, you did not know the Texans had a great upset win versus the Bills last Thursday, you just don't know/care enough to mention the games. That is the plan, unless ... she starts mentioning the Texans' win, and she know how deadly Josh Allen could be to other teams, then you can go back to discussing football as long as she is with you. Good luck :)

Thanks, I'm wondering what to wear since it's been a long time.

She said she will dress up a bit (whatever that means). It's a local steakhouse (Longhorn Steakhouse) that sees a lot of people and the times I have been there, people were dressed all kinds of ways, including shorts, tees and baseball caps (not my style). But since it will be cool out (50's), I plan a pair of nice slacks, a collared shirt and a pull over sweater, of which I have many of. I will look "collegiate". I don't think a sport coat is necessary.
I don't think the Longhorn takes reservations (?) but they do have a waitlist you can get on, which can speed up being seated if they are busy.

I haven't dated someone besides my wife in over 50 years, so this could backfire: if you can squeeze in that you're a football fan but chose this date instead, maybe you'll score brownie points??

Yes, they have a wait-list and I plan to log onto it and sign when I pick her up at 6:00 PM.

I have found it easier to just assume that as the man I will pick up the check. Just make sure she is not a High Maintenance type of woman who insists on wanting only the BE$T$ restaurants.

If she offers, then I politely tell her that if we see each other again, she will have many opportunities to do the same for us. If she absolutely insists on paying something, you can ask her to pay the tip. If that isn't enough, don't argue. Let her pay 50%. The woman is always right, especially if you think she is worth investing some time and effort to get to know her better.

Remember to not talk to too much. Give her plenty of options for telling as much of her story as you do yours.

Don't talk too much about past spouses or girl friends. If a lady asks me about my marriage, why it ended, etc. I tell her quite simply, I would be happy to spend 15 minutes talking about it, but that's the limit on this date. If she wants more info, we can spend another 15 minutes before the next date filling in more details. Up to a point. I don't kiss and tell whether it's the lady I am with, another gf, or my former spouse.

Thanks, good advice. (y)

Sounds perfect!

My only hope is that she is not a Dallas Cowboys fan as that would sink everything! :ROFLMAO:
Today's Dallas game should be over by the time you pick her up.

But I know what you mean.
I would be less than pleased if someone I was dating turned out to be a loyal Yankees fan...

We've told girls the boys have brought home, "We root for 2 baseball teams in this house, the Mets, and whoever is playing the Yankees." It's in good fun (but true).

HaHa,,,,although I am a diehard Yankee fan, I did live with my DW for nearly 30 years and she was an Astros fan. We just didn't watch baseball games together.

I didn't read all seven (so far!) pages of replies, but that alone really tells me something: This board is full of supportive souls! Good luck on your date @aja8888.

For ME it is the San Francisco Giants and anybody who plays against the D*dgers << Like W*rk THAT is a swear word and I don't want to swear in public.

FWIW: I find it refreshing and uplifting on how this forum community has come together here and rallied around "one of ours"!

This is how things should be.
Yes! In fact, it's so exciting that Im thinking of asking for DWs permission to start dating, but I'm not sure it is a good idea so one of you marrieds go first and let me know how it goes.🤔

Have a great time!
