Alcohol Consumption and Cancer

Some good reading in this thread and always good to get a wide range of thoughts on this. For the most part it seems that we all agree that we know drinking is bad for you, and many are fine with the risk. That being said, I will head down to the beer fridge and get a good Stout out to have with dinner.

I will say that I have gotten to where I drink less, purposely, but I have replaced some of my alcohol consumption with low level THC drinks. I am sure its just another trade off.

.. low level THC drinks. ...
That's a new one on me (a weed drink). If you're talking health effects, I'd bet you're going to gain more weight from that drink than from beer. Beer makes you full. Weed gives you the munchies. A long time ago, but, man, my experience with the munchies was that "resistance is futile", and for the worst kinds of food, too.

After reading all the posts, I’ve decided I want to die content and without pain. I really don’t care how old I’ll be. Don’t want to be a burden to anyone and hope I leave good memories for those I’ve known over the years. All the rest is noise.

If it's good science, then a label is appropriate. But if the agency has been taken over by the nannies and there's not certain causality proven, then a label is not appropriate.
Yet another rather meaningless topic to keep us arguing while important topics get no focus.
Oh, I don't know. At least we got to one important topic. How to deal with the slivers of bar soap that always remain in the soap dish. YMMV

Most things in excess are bad for us. I don’t drink as I have HBP and tachycardia both under control with a beta blocker. I exercise daily.

I’m a healthy weight but don’t eat as healthy as some other people. Life is all about trade offs and balance. I think a lot of our health comes from our genetics. I have noticed that many people quit drinking when they are older.

How about The French Paradox ?

France's lower-than-expected rate of coronary heart disease (CHD) despite its high consumption of saturated fat and cholesterol, may be due to the regular consumption of wine.

I think that's where that "recent" finding and statistic that was widely dispersed came from. Well, that and the wine lobby. ;)

On a similar note, what do you do about the few drops of liquor remaining in the bottle after you’ve finished it? Me, I add a bit of water, swish it around, and swig it. That still leaves a few drops of diluted liquor in the bottle. I could keep swishing and swigging, but I don’t. Oh well.

It could also be something else in their diet and not the wine.

Have you ever heard of 'swish'?

It is made buy obtaining/buying a barrel that was previously used to age scotch, etc. Fill it part way with good spring water. Swish it about over time, let it cure. It draws the liquer out from the wood.

Bingo...you have what is commonly referred to as 'Swish'.

Hawaii is the longest lived state in the Union. Some attribute that to the more Oriental life style/diet. My take: People live longer here because (wait for it) they WANT to. Could be the same in France. I loved Paris but didn't get a chance to view a lot of France. All things being equal, I'd much rather live in Paris than Chicago. Loving where you live seems likely to extend life but I have no citation for that so YMMV.

We lived in Paris for several years. My take: they walk a lot more than we do, the food is very fresh and not very processed like ours, wine is a "necessary" part of the meal for digestion and despite all their noise, they don't worry about things as much as we do. Plus there's a notably better life/work balance.

Yeah, attitude toward life is a big factor in health, I think (YMMV.).
