Has anyone taken a domestic cruise on a smaller ship? Something like American Cruise lines? My wife and I flew a lot for work, so we are not ready to fly back to Europe. We may do a cruise up the New England coast. Just looking for ideas and opinions.

Depends on what you mean by domestic cruise.
Lindblad/NatGeo does small ship expedition cruises in North America and I would highly recommend any of them. Expensive, but definitely worth the money.

My Dad has done several. Maine up and around and down St. Lawrence seaway which he quite liked and did a couple of times. Up the Mississippi (New Orleans to Memphis I think) with American Cruise Lines. I think ACL also does trips on the Columbia River in the PNW.

ACL seems pricy to me for what you get, but maybe that's just me.

They were referring to American Cruise Lines.

My parents did the Chesapeake cruise on that line. Leaves Baltimore and goes as far south as Yorktown/Williamsburg with stops in St Michaels and Annapolis. They enjoyed it!
It was funny to us that our Mom said, 'There were a lot of old people!'...she is mid 80's.

No but I've been docked or moored on my boat in port at Block Island and Nantucket and seen their ships. They are smaller ships and can get into places like Block Island. They look nice.

Had to jump on board on one their tenders in Nantucket and start CPR on a guy. As soon as I started his implanted defibrillator kicked in and he woke up and looked at me and said a few expletives. Was actually a very funny scenario ( in retrospect) . We called the ambulance and they carted him away to be assessed.
