As per Cut-Throats post I also have a small pension I'm undecided on. I could have started taking it at 55 if I had known. I'm 57 now. This had been passed from place to place due to sell outs, mergers, and such over the years. Finally ended up in an annuity at Pacific Life.
I ask them to send 2 scenerios.....one starting this year....one starting in 08. They are as follows:

Commencement date 9-1-06
Life annuity...................................$129.17/ month
Life with 120 payments certain.....$122.84/ month
Life with 60 payments certain.......$127.36/ month
100% contigent annuitant............$103.34/ month
50% contingent annuitant............$114.96/ month

Commencement date 9-1-08
Life annuity...................................$161.47/ month
life with 120 payment certain........$151.78/ month
Life with 60 payments certain.......$158.73/ month
100% contigent annuitant............$129.18/ month
50% contingent annuitant............$143.71/ month

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you're already FI and enjoying RE, give it to charity.

Take it over your lifetime. You are the number one charity. The $ amount may be small, but at least it will get you down one aisle of the grocery store.

I started drawing a small DB pension when I was 50. I put it in a tax sheltered annuity. I'm amazed at what that sucker is worth today--8 years later-- and I never even missed it.
