Anyone else rethinking Social Security timing?

I'm amazed at the stories related to SSA. Wife just started, and we decided to change account for deposit. No problems at all. I guess many people can't navigate online and are required to talk to a person. Sucks to be those folks.

If you read the link I provided, SS has had modernization plans but they've had a tougher time getting the funds to implement. Might have to spend something to get to better productivity. You can't gut the workforce and leave infrastructure as is and expect performance to improve.
I don't know about adequate funds - or not - but I haven't seen any "gutting" of the workforce of SS. We're looking at "changes" in workforce maybe in a couple of percent rage. By the way, I cut my department by 20% and productivity went up. Way up.

Did you see the news reporting on SS staffing cuts today? Does not sound good at all.

Curious how big your department was when you cut 20%. How did you determine who was cut?

20% is a little more than the Jack Welch bottom 10% model, but still doable in a large organization. In a 60k plus organization, i think one would find a pretty target rich environment.

I moved mine to the Netherlands and productivity went up more than the higher salary and benefits, shorter work week and longer vacations. That was a professional organization. Clerical jobs and other low level work went to Poland and India.

When I ran a high tech electro optical production company, we found that poor workers were 5% of the problem and poor processes and procedures were 95% of the problem. Once we fixed the processes and procedures, we needed 40% fewer people to produce 50% more product. The remaining workers were so much happier working in an efficient company.

How efficient do you think the SAA processes and procedures are?

Sure, you can cut people from an organization and sometimes get better performance. Doing that, however, requires a close and informed look at the people and understanding of the tasks that they do. It requires understanding of the training time for replacements and the existing pipeline for talent to replace the employees that eventually leave the organization of their own accord.

This stupid termination of employees without regard to the above factors is stupid and dangerous - no matter if we are talking about SSA, the NPS, the NNSA, or any of the other agencies affected.

During my working career, it’s been my experience that new hires usually bring new ideas to making the organization more efficient.

Seems like they are cutting heads just to be able to say they have cut heads with nary a thought about whether the cuts are the right heads or not.

From what I've read most of the cuts are probational employees. While they may not be experienced with that department they may be the ones that bring ideas on better ways to do things and may have more energy wanting to prove themselves. In most organizations I worked in it was pretty obvious to everyone who the keepers should be.
