A few days ago, a few channels in my cable-TV lineup went off the air. I have Optimum here in the NYC-metro area, and Optimum's parent company is Altice. Altice has had a contract dispute with Nexstar, a network which owns a few channels such as WPIX and AntennaTV, 2 channels I often watch.

Here is an article about dispute:

Both sides blame each other, of course, but we viewers are the ones who get screwed. Further adding to the Optimum viewers' woes is the the fact that MSG, the sports network which provides access to the many pro basketball and hockey teams games, has also been yanked off the air. I don't watch sports any more, so I am not personally affected by that.

I haven't tried to hook up an actual antenna to try to get WPIX, an OTA channel; not sure if that's all it takes to bring it in. And would I have to switch back and forth whenever I change to a different channel? Probably not worth the effort. Will Optimum provide a credit for the lost channels? Doubt it. It's just more of the same, paying for channels I don't want to or can't view.

WPIX airs Mets games. With owner Steve Cohen spreading it around (such as $750 million to one baseball player) perhaps Altice wants a sweet deal, too.

I lost Channel 8 in CT (ABC). It sucks. I cannot watch Jeopardy and other shows. Hopefully they resolve this dispute soon!
