Apple plans to spend a bunch here (U.S.) over the next 4 years. Better here than overseas! Looks live a lot of JV's and some stand alone plants, like one big one in Houston.

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced its largest-ever spend commitment, with plans to spend and invest more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. This new pledge builds on Apple’s long history of investing in American innovation and advanced high-skilled manufacturing, and will support a wide range of initiatives that focus on artificial intelligence, silicon engineering, and skills development for students and workers across the country
“We are bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “From doubling our Advanced Manufacturing Fund, to building advanced technology in Texas, we’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing. And we’ll keep working with people and companies across this country to help write an extraordinary new chapter in the history of American innovation.”

Whenever I read these announcements I wonder how much is really new spending and how much is spending that was already underway and is being described as investment. When I worked for Megacorp we did this all the time.

At least the article gives us an insight as to what their plans are for the business.

I didn’t mean to cast aspersions on the Apple announcement. The US is enjoying a surge in capital investment which is both real and additive to our GDP, and most of the credit has been taken by gone to Meta, Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon.

The real net new investment and hiring is probably not as high as indicated in the press release, but there can be no doubt it is still a pretty big number. Just as important, and not highlighted anywhere, is that Apple will most likely be investing at least as much in the US as it invests internationally.

As I read through the Apple release for Oregon information there is mention of silicon manufacturing.. must be Siltronic in Portland (an existing firm) then data center likely in central Oregon near the power connection from the Dalles Dam to California.. data centers employ very few people once constructed. In a nutshell, a big nothing.

Now if they were to buy an Intel manufacturing facility THAT would rescue jobs!

I am hoping that Pharma will invest/return from a security standpoint.

Great headline to read.....Can only be good news for all of us in the USA.

Apple’s not buying Intel. Apple started switching away from Intel processors in 2021 and into Apple designed processors. The changeover was completed in June 2023 with the Apple Mac Pro.

I don't see how this would be anything but great news. For jobs, innovation, stock price, better products, etc.

I was glad to hear it.

Apple purchased Intel’s cellular division several years in an attempt to design their own cellular chip and stop paying Qualcomm. The new SE phone is their first phone using their cellular chip design.

Prices may be a bit higher but they will have to stay competitive so may not be higher. Crystal ball anyone?

Lest anyone forgets in 2021 Apple committed 430 billion in US spending over 5 years

I guess maybe threats of tariffs will work and bring businesses back to the US LOL
The real reason for many in this industry to onshore the servers etc. (this was already in play for APPLE and others) is the prior admin had already enacted CUI and CMMC requirements, like ITAR, that keep servers and data stored in the USA for protections. So contracts for Universities, gov't, military and more that require gov't PO's, now have to have classified UNCONTROLLED info (CUI) managed. It is just coming as a requirement, but it has been established a couple years ago so companies can plan to comply. Hence you are now seeing the plans announced for the physical implementation. Apple is not alone, just very big. The credit for this is cybersecurity protections that are now 3 years old.
