Autos Thread

My last restoration project (2022) as I was getting too worn out to be under cars pulling ball joints and transmissions anymore. It's a 1971 VW Super Beetle with the flat windshield and dash (one year model only). I rebuilt about everything except the transaxle as it was NEW when we found this in non-running condition in an estate sale. It took a year to get a clean title. I paid $1 K for it and spent way more than that in cheap Chinese parts, although I found some good used parts. this photo was right after I did a complete brake job on it:

My friend Bruce's 1955 Ford 2 door sedan. I rebuilt the engine on it and we put in a late model Chevrolet V8 with a multi port fuel injection conversion. What a pain, as the exhaust manifold on the left side of the block interfered with the steering box. Plus, the transmission mounts did not line up. He spent $10 K on the paint job. The car is a dream to drive, and it has aftermarket A/C!

Forgot to mention...it has a Ford Mustang II front suspension making it much more derivable that the original king pin steering. It takes a ton of work and expensive parts to get a 50's car feeling like a more modern vehicle on the road today.

Probably the most exciting car we ever owned, 2001 Audi TT 225. I love cars but too cheap to ever buy anything extravagant, even today. I had a 1975 Corvette before I got married but it was a POS. Slow and wouldn’t corner at all.

Yes, Corvette had some "dark" years in the "malaise" era. When fuel got hard to get and expensive, and high horsepower was falling out of favor, this what GM ended up with. A slug! And in 1983 (I believe), Chevrolet did not even make a Corvette for that model year. Things turned around in the late 1990's with the C4 version, and got progressively better after that.

Oh great, another thread that let's me show off my classic. It is still sitting in my garage. It is a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible with rare factory air. It has less than 47,000 miles on it.

what was the thinking of the rear lights protruding like that do u know why they did it? just curious. white with blue interior interesting color choice. liking it.

Me too: Mine was a 996 twin turbo S limited edition ......... 800hp.
I drove a 911 GT3 and a Lambo on a track once. The porsche handled much better overall IMO. Also I am tall; the porsche could handle my height while the Lambo I had to tilt my head sideways a bit.

I owned a Grand National. That was the only fun/special car I've ever owned. It was a great car in its day, but I'd much rather drive a modern car today. Still, as far as muscle cars go, I think the GN is one of the best in terms of overall appearance.

(pic is not my actual car)

I have always loved sports cars, my first was a Datsun 280ZX years ago. Owned a 1988 Porsche 911, and a couple of BMW’s. I sold my 2008 BMW coupe, shown below, last year because I was getting tired of dealing with too many maintenance issues. I wanted a more reliable and comfortable car now that I’m in my 70’s, so after a lot of research I bought a Lexus RC350 F Sport last year and love it.
