average retirement age in US

In 2011 - US News did an article that said the retirement age for men had risen from 62 to 64 and for women it had risen from 60 - 62.

What I liked best was the reasons they gave for the changes... driven by declines in traditional pensions and retiree health benefits offered by employers, changes in the way Social Security benefits are calculated, better education and health, and less strenuous jobs that people are able to perform at older ages.

Look on the bright side. This ER forum will have lots of members in their late 60s to early 70's in a decade or so.
