Well, as of last week, our NW, excluding real estate, crossed the $4M mark for the first time. When we started this journey 15 years ago, with a $250k NW, our goal was to be at $3M by 2032. Obviously we have well surpassed that and also moved our FIRE date up to April, 2026 (partially dependent the ability to offload stock once my company goes public). It also would be nice to be at $4.5M - $5M at that time, which between bonuses, stock and some other items should be doable, assuming no market crash.

Looking back, I'm amazed at what we have been able to accomplish. Yes, the market has helped tremendously, but also we have LBYM, saved continuously, had a cross country move and raised a child during that time. I wish everyone could find this forum and gleen the knowledge from you fine folks that I have. It is inspiring to hear everyone's stories, learn from each other's mistakes and understand that there really is more than one way to skin a cat. Thanks for everyone's help along the way and hope I get to post about $5M one day!!

Congratulations!

I'm curious about how you value the company stock, because I'm in a similar situation.

I actually don't even have that in the calculation yet. All of my shares at this moment are dependant on our valuation at the time we go public, so those are an upside to my current NW.

Wow.

We have an internal valuation so I have a number to use until our IPO. It's a solid valuation and methodology that's been used from day one, but still doesn't feel real.

Cheers to your, and my, IPO's! 🥃

Brokrken, congratulations…that is an awesome accomplishment. It’s funny that you mention this as I just noticed that our NW (not including real estate…just investable assets) just surpassed a major milestone amount this week. Yes, the markets have been kind and our mix of investments has certainly helped. I am equally amazed by reaching such a lofty number. Being retired for 15 months, and seeing the NW number continue to increase is a good feeling for sure. Best of luck to you and all for continued future success!

Congratulations 🥂 That is definitely a milestone worth celebrating!

FYI, there is an ongoing thread already dedicated to this kind of news, so you might want to post your future milestones here: Share your milestones

We have that internal valuation, too, but I don't believe it. :)

You built that nest egg up fast. Good for you!

Well there's a strategy. Get some stock as an employee in a private company and wait until the company goes public. Why didn't I think of that?

Okay, okay, congratulations on the impending IPO. I know a couple of others who snared a few million and retired early that way.

Note that the stock is not considered in the $4M

Very nice "round" number. Congratulations on your persistence.

Congrats, to you as well! Glad to hear you're enjoying retirement. Can't wait to join you :)

Love those round numbers. I celebrate when my car rolls over with 5 zeros or my NW has 6 zeros. We crossed 6 million today at least on our investment accounts tracking tool which aggregates most everything but doesn’t reflect real estate fluctuations. Of course can’t really crow about this anywhere but here!

Wife of course always pragmatic, said “so maybe you can buy that table I wanted for the patio?” But she did compliment me on spending more for a better life today, as we sat for the first time in the hot tub we installed outside. Life is good!

Money can’t buy happiness but it sure as hell doesn’t hurt and if you are basically satisfied with your life it can make it very special!

^ very well done! How many years did it take you to double your portfolio since you retired?

Congratulations!

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. I had pre-IPO shares with a company in my previous life. Company never went public and shares were worth $0 by the time I was laid off! YMMV.

About 6 years! Now time to enjoy and ease up on the frugality
We are on a similar journey as OP. We have eased up spending a little bit. Every time DW asks me, "Should we buy this", I have been saying yes for the last couple of years! It feels weird but I am training myself for the realities down a few years. Frugality is a hard habit to break but we are under training now.

Congratulations OP.

Good point. However, we are maybe a bit different in that we are not a start up. We were part of a public company, spun off and bought by private equity and now after increasing earning quites significantly going public is the liquidity event private equity is looking for.

Nice Job! It takes persistence, some luck but also some skill and patience. Little bit of all those ingredients in this dish we call FIRE!

That is inspiring. I am on my way, I looked back 7 years ago we had 250k NW. We are on our way to being multi millionaires. Its crazy, it all seems to have happened so fast, but I guess that IS the power of compounding, good decisions and a super long bull run! If we double again in 10, we will be retired 100% and likely have all kids college paid with our home paid off. That will be the culmination of a bunch of serious preparation. NOT LUCK!
