Blow that Dough 2024

Here's my micro BTD this week:
Fired up the snowblower to check it out for winter. The gas in there is two years old because it got almost no use for two years, so the engine was surging.

Easy: drain the gas, replace the gas, maybe add some stabilizer.
Easier: call "the guy" to come pick it up and pay $300 to fix it. Just didn't want to be bothered. Plus disposing old gas now is a PITA.
I can almost guarantee you that you wouldn’t have gotten away with “easy”. Those types of issues are almost always a carburetor in need of cleaning/rebuild.

Had a BTD a few weeks ago when my better half bought a new full-suspension carbon fiber mountain bike.

Well, we went back to the shop yesterday to get her handlebars cut down and lo-and-behold there's a lightly used carbon fiber fat tire bike in my size sitting in the shop with a price that screamed "buy me!" I had been planning to buy a new trail bike next month, and a gravel bike is also high on that list, but that carbon fat bike is now sitting in my garage :)

The icing on the cake was that someone came back in to buy it while I was out on a test ride, but the first thing I said when I walked back into the shop was, "sold!"

Much smaller than the big stuff here, but nickel and diming my way into house projects...$100 on a power washer for the deck before I stain and seal it, probably that much again for other supplies, many cans of paint in my future to paint most of the rooms inside, fertilizer for the neglected lawn, cost of some repair to the wooden fence. And etc.

Bought a 2024 Corvette Z06. Was nice to pay cash for the car.

Nowhere near the Z06 range, but I went to a silent auction for charity this evening. After a long week, the better-half wasn't feeling up to joining, but gave me the green light to BTD.

My general approach with charity auctions is to find those items with the most interest, but little actual value, and bid high to try to drive up the price. From a distance I watched a few folks express visible shock at some of my bids, but I also think I'll be outbid on other items. I left before the auction closed. Winners will be announced on Monday, so I still don't know how much dough has been blown.

Today I was going to buy the small takeout Chinese dinner but said to hell with it, you only live once! Gimme the large!

How's that for spending??
LOL I can do that now too. The older I get the easier it is to BTD.

We booked the air & accommodations for 2 weeks in Mexico for Dec. DW got a 75k air points bonus for the next trip with it. Frugal and spendy she is...

My nephew is doing a quick factory visit in California - this from Norway. We spoke about what a long trip for only a few days. And ended up planning a 10 day extension for us both.

We both prefer to make our plan as we go so other than starting out in Silicon Walley we don't have many fixed plans.

But I am sure my credit cards will get a work out! I've already started to browse Turo and Hotels.com for ideas.

Have a trip booked for Toronto next week. VV nice downtown hotel, got a deal weeks back (directly thru the hotel, so no shenanigans to worry about), just under $400 USD per night, if we booked today it's well over 900!

We just returned from a long weekend in the city. Club level room in a luxury hotel, all on points. In addition to the food offerings in the lounge, my brand status allowed us to dine in the main hotel restaurant each morning: Buffet or menu, they covered the tab on everything including tip. Plus, a room credit was enough to cover happy hour one night and a night cap the next.

I'm truly surprised how poorly we did with our plan to BTD. Friends cooked dinner for us one night. We took my friend, his wife and kids out to an upscale restaurant for lunch, but nobody drank and the kids ordered off the children's menu. Total with tip was barely $200. Even on our big date night out, the restaurant messed up my entree and ended up comping half the bill. I even told the manager that it was fine, but she was insistent, so I gave the server a 50% tip.

So 3 nights and 2 full days living it up in the city and we failed to spend over $500. A wonderful weekend but a bit of a letdown for BTD.

With any luck, you'll have many more opportunities to BTD.

Cool story.

We're going on a river cruise in central Europe next week. It's a two week trip beginning in Budapest, ending in Amsterdam. I splurged for business class upgrade to airline tickets for the trip over the pond to BUD.
