Blow that Dough 2024

Yes, but it limits the exposure. It prevents someone from capturing the signal while I’m sleeping. My understanding is that they can grab the signal because the fob is always trying to communicate with the vehicle. So they get near the house and rely that signal to a person at the vehicle and the vehicle thinks the fob is at or even in the vehicle. It also prevents someone from capturing the signal when I stop in say, a parking lot to go shopping.
Not sure how far away your fob needs to be but I sometimes have problems with mine being in my pocket.... it will not unlock unless I hike up my pants a few inches... so I do not think my signal is that strong... and I have replaced the battery so that is not the problem...

If so, how come they can't seem to locate most stolen vehicles?
It may be because of state law or the vehicle may have to be operating or powered up. If parted out, I'm sure the battery has been disconnected. My friend, who owned 2 dealerships, said that also when sales are made, he was under scrutiny to make sure his sales were for domestic use only, and not to be shipped overseas.

In fact I recall reading that some models of Hyundai and Kia didn't have the immobilizer so the rates of theft for those models were higher for awhile but then they finally added it.
Yeah my 2019 Santa Fe is protected by The Club and window stickers when I travel. And rattlesnakes, cactus and 3 dogs to love thieves to death at home.

We decided to replace our heat pump. Our system was 12 years old - in days of yore that age would not be an issue, but these days it seems you are lucky to get 10 years out of them. The last few years we had out-of-warranty problems that, while annoyances and not costly, were reminders that things might be be getting better with the system. In addition, the refrigerant change starting 2025 seems to indicate new systems - which have to use the new refrigerant - will be more expensive. After getting an outlandish bid from our current vendor, we put it out to bid and chose a company that several neighbors installed systems from and were very happy with. Now we have a new system with a 10 year parts and labor warranty. On less thing to be a major worry about for the next 10 years :).

I saw an ad on TV saying to buy your AC unit before year end because the cost of one in 2025 was going to be $3K higher...

I had not heard of this change before that ad...

I had not seen ads but I did hear about this from local providers, and there are many articles on the web on this topic. Of course the ads are coming now to spur year end installations and revenue. But new systems in 2025 will be about 10%-25% higher, the range I have seen from various sources and local providers.

The ole TV was going dark, so we got a bigger one (65" LG) with all the price drops lately. So far very happy with it.

Just ordered a Monos carry on luggage. I will see if it worths $220.

My youngest daughter is moving out next week, so my wife gets the craft room back. Got a nice unit to get her set up for $2k delivered.

I've been wondering a while if it might be worth it to consider replacing my 47 year old stereo speakers. I've always thought that they sounded good, but they were what I could afford as a college student. I read a bunch of reviews, and was pretty impressed with what was said about the KEF R3 Metas. However, they go for $2200 a pair, and I could not imagine that I would find them worth it. No one sells them near home, and I would never buy speakers without listening to them first.
We were going to my SIL's for Thanksgiving as usual, and there was one good audio store there that happened to carry KEF. They were not going to be open the whole holiday weekend, but were yesterday. We got into town early enough for me to run over and see what they had. Lucky enough, they had the R3 Metas. I listened, and was genuinely impressed with how they sounded. I could hear elements in familiar music that I do not get at home. I asked what there was at a lower price, and they put on a different pair of KEF's at $1300. Surprisingly to me, I could hear the difference. The others were still good, but lacking something vs. the R3's. I needed to get back to my SIL's before the traffic got too bad, and still needed to think about the expense. No one, even online, seemed to have a better price, except for used/dinged ones on Ebay. That evening, I looked up some more reviews, especially head to head comparisons with other similarly priced models. It's been a big BTD year already, but still I decided that I would go for it again. The store was closed, but I found that Amazon had dropped the price that evening by $100 on the last pair of the color I wanted, so they're on order.

Nice!! I wish my eyes and ears were as good as they were 47 years ago. I now have 720p eyes in a 4k world :)

I have my speakers from the 70's, a set of Marantz DS940's. I decided I was going to upgrade last year and went out and listened to a bunch of new speakers. I just couldn't pull the trigger, it's so hard choose. Current logic says anything with modern day technology would be better, but I listened to the Magnepans I liked, but wasn't sure if they were an improvement. Maybe my 69 year old years are the problem...

Good for you, and enjoy your new speakers!

Just ordered us a pair of electric bikes. Camping friends have let us play with theirs a few times. Black Friday deal save about $300 But still $1100.

My DW does Les Mills exercise videos 5 days a week. In the videos, they have their own branded equipment that looks really nice. I just spend $620 on the complete bundle of equipment. I know it is over priced, but she has wanted it for a long time. She is so excited to get it. I'm glad to blow the dough on her. She will also make good use of it.

I have thought about doing that for a few years. I still have my 10 inch pair of Pioneer and 10 inch pair of Coral speakers in walnut cabinets that I listen to on occasion. They were part of the late 60s Vietnam era military Pacex catalog issue. I probably paid about $60 to$70 for a pair. Unfortunately, my hearing has aged since then just like most things and replacing them would be a waste for me. So I will close my eyes, kick back with a beer, listen to my 60s vinyl through my 60s speakers and, reminisce about the "good old days".

Just bought an LG 65" C4 for $1,499. All in with the Sonos sound bar and remounting of 2 other tv's close to 3k. Replaced a 15 yr old tv. Excited for delivery.
Also the fiance bought an iPhone 15 plus accessories for $750.

We just had an air conditioning unit installed on the roof of our campervan. Last summer there were some nights with low temperatures in the 80’s and high humidity. Camping / traveling was much less fun in those conditions.

It was a pricey job:

$1500 for the AC unit;

$1100 for the huge 460 AH battery so we can run it without shore-power plug in or generator;

$2500 for the install by a small shop that we really trust as he has done work for us before.

$5100 total. Very pricey but we’ve got plans to be traveling in the van for 15+ weeks in 2025, including the East coast in the Spring / Summer. It will be worth it to us.

With sales tax, $993 for a new Nikon D7500 camera with the kit zoom lens. It's on sale with several hundred off, maybe because they're about to release a new model of the 7000 series, but it has enough incremental improvements over my 13-year-old D7000 to make it worthwhile. I think the better low-light capability will be the improvement I use the most. I did look at mirrorless cameras but I'm just not up to spending a pile more on one of those plus a whole new set of more-expensive lenses.

OHHH, see someone else blew the dough on a TV...

We bought two.... a 77 inch for me downstairs and a 65 for DW upstairs... Samsung S90s...

Found out one of my sister's just did the same... she told me to pay the install fee so I guess I will BTD for that also...

DW said " I'd like to see Victoria Falls" I replied "OK, make the arrangements".

She did.

I thought Victoria Falls was on the North Shore of our home state of Minnesota, a half day's drive. I found out is somewhere in Africa. We're going in March.....BTD is right.

Ha !
Please take beaucoup pictures and post them up.

We lived / worked in Africa for near to 20 year but never traveled or did anything. I worked abit over 10 months per year there and it was stressful, so when we did take our Days Off we was always so ready to get back to Texas.

But we worked with lots of folks that went to Victoria Falls, did the Camera Safari's and rode the fancy old Victorian Train
Enjoy !

I bought a 9.9 HP Mercury outboard motor. It was quite a struggle as the first one they prepped for me had a carb and I had wanted an EFI (electronic fuel injection).
Mercury just started making the 9.9 with EFI in June 2024 , they have it on bigger motors.

So they switched and prepped an EFI one, but it had a weird problem shifting from F to N, very hard to do.
Said they would fix it for the next day.

They phoned the next day to say the motor is going back to Mercury as it's a huge problem with the shift thing. But they will get me an EFI from another store.

Next day, I finally got my EFI 9.9 and saw it run in the tank and brought it home to sit happily in my garage until next summer !
