Blow That Dough 2025

We regularly travel to Ouray in June for the Mining Antique Show. Been on many a trail in the area, be sure to visit Animas Forks historical site, with the restored homes from the mining community still in place. The original stamping mill from this mine was disassembled and reassembled at the mine down the road toward Silverton. When that mine closed, the plant was disassembled again, and shipped to Asia, where it is still in use today. At least that is what the ranger said.

Paid $50 for a Slate truck reservation.

Electricity here is inexpensive (~$0.10/kWh, 24/7) so I'm looking forward to it as my daily driver.
I did too. So that makes a total of four new car reservations for me (I won't follow through with them all though).

My husband and I went through a bit of a board game buying spree this month.

Part of it is because we can play some of the longer games now that we are retired. Part of it was sale items from a company going out of business.

Another bit was buying games just in case more game companies go out of business.

Many of the companies that make board games are small independent companies. A few have gone out of business since the tariffs were announced.

So far, all the ones that went out of business were on shaky financial ground before the tariffs were announced. So I hope the rest of the companies will be okay.

My wife and I are big Scrabble players.

I agree! Beautiful painting technique but it makes me shudder.

Monday I leave for Vienna. I have a tour with Overseas Adventure Travel coming up in October- Greece, Albania, Crete and Macedonia. South America and Patagonia in March- maybe. I'll have open-heart surgery late this year but should be up to it by then. (Yes, I WILL make sure the doc is OK with it and I can cancel pretty close to the date with minimal penalty. Haven't booked the airfare yet but I always book fares that at least give you a credit if unused.)

So... OAT sent me an email with a special promotion for some trips in 2026. I'd been wanting to see India again, so India and Sri Lanka in November 2026. Hey, I got $200 off. :)

Enjoy your trip to Vienna!

I was widowed last June and since then have taken 3 trips with OAT due to the singles pricing. Just got back last week from:

Ultimate Galápagos Exploration & Ecuador's Amazon Wilds

With the pre-trip to Machu Picchu. It was my first time to South America, and I really enjoyed the trip. I think I’m going to try them for New Zealand next February.

I guess I'm living on the dark side of the Moon. I had to look up the Slate truck. What a concept!

You can get a Tesla CyberTruck without ordering, plus you can pick your color! LOL!
I'm seeing quite a few Cyber Trucks here of late. The impression I get is not so much a truck as a strange looking (huge) car. But yesterday, I was driving Kalanianaole Hwy and saw a Cyber Truck. From the bed of the vehicle a, dog stuck his head up just like I'd seen a thousand times from the back of a F-150. I thought to myself. "Yep. Cyber Trucks have arrived in the Islands."

I bought a brand new light, carbon fiber road bike on my Birthday in January. I’ve been so stoked with it, so much faster, agile, that yesterday I bought another carbon fiber gravel bike from the same DTC bike company. There will be a 12lb weight reduction between the new one and my current gravel bike. You can never have too many bikes.

Bought a few flower planters. I will have a lot of flowers this year. Very low cost as I like to do gardening myself for fun.

I've noticed bicyclists like yourself have around a dozen bikes or so.

Care to share how many you have and what you paid for the new one?

I bought a carbon fiber fat bike late last year. Each tire weights more than the frame. Just a fun contradiction to have in the stable.

I just paid for my foot surgery for Friday. I have had to also buy special insoles for all my shoes (I'll have to do this for the rest of my life), Oofos for the house (no more barefoot for the rest of my life), air cast, crutches, MRI, multiple doctor visits. I think before insurance it is about $10k all in so far.

With my employer retiree insurance, we have a $3.3k deductible then 20% until we hit $6.6k. I'm past the deductible, so everything is on sale for the rest of the year. I'm guessing about $5k out of pocket.

I don't know if I'll be very active this summer so I told my DW she should take the girls to a resort in Mexico for a week and I'll stay home with the dog.

I have 5 bikes. They are all different in some regard. Kind of like having a sports car, an SUV, a Jeep, a Sprinter van, etc. I had at one time 10 bikes, but that was when I was really into building them myself. I had a great basement workshop in our first house.
The new one was right about $3000.

Added a new BMW M240i to the fleet....

We have 10 bikes between the two of us 😂

Currently my cross bike is a late-70s steel frame that I converted into a fixie, and I'm overdue for an upgrade.

I have a track frame that went from fixie, to drop bar single speed to flat bar single speed. It is my going to get the mail bike. Our mail box bank is about .75 miles from our house.
