Blow That Dough 2025

Niece just doubled our mainland rent!! We're now paying $1000/mo to have a place to land when ever we return to our "old lives" on the frozen tundra of the heartland. That's actually still a bargain for what we get (all utilities paid except cable.) But we look at it as if our travel budget just went up $6000 and we haven't moved an inch yet!

We think it's a good BTD and don't mind paying it.
Your niece doubled the rent? What?

Our favorite BTD is travel and dining... combined we budget around $40k. Usually one trip to Europe, cruises, all inclusive resorts and beach trips.
Same budget for those 2 items for us too, but more domestic travel.

Spent a little over $1k on three Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy sessions. After mohs surgery on my nose last year, I developed bulging blood vessels on the tip of my nose. The IPL destroys those vessels. The IPL is on the entire face, so it has cleaned up a bunch of other stuff too. I wouldn't normally do this, but I didn't like looking like Rudolph year round.

In a word "yes."

I did mention it was still a bargain. 1400SF. 4 BR 2 1/2 bath. Entire upstairs for storage. Basement as tornado shelter. Garage. All utilities except cable.

Oh, and DW set the original rent ($500) 20+ years ago when we owned the property. We sold to Niece 12 years ago and the rent never changed - until now.

Any more questions? (Yes, we still exchange Christmas gifts and visits when we're on the mainland.)

You got lucky!

We think so. Dear niece is the one who bought the business from us. She was our way out! (Trust me, it's easier to get INTO business than it is to get OUT).

Landscaping the back and side yards for our soon to be new construction retirement home in Reno is coming in at the $50,000 range, plus $4,500 for front yard steps from the sidewalk to the front door, and $9,500 for the small outdoor kitchen that I wanted. I’ll have a barbecue without having to haul pellets or propane tanks and the kitchen shouldn’t blow away, so I’m happy.
If you are just moving to Reno you will love it here! I have lived here for 28 years and love it. I have lived in 5 states. Congrats on the new home.

On 1/6 I bought a new car to replace my 17 year old car. I bought a Subaru Impreza and love it. I bought a plane ticket to see my family and friends in Wisconsin the end of February and tickets to Vegas in June for a vacation with my kids.

You have blown some dough that is for sure. That is great!

Trying to pry my still live warm hands off my Honda insight 2011 base model with over 150,000 miles to buy .... Something else that is a bit more comfy. Or fun. Maybe a Mini Cooper 2019s? My brain is just not able to shift yet. That Honda was one reason I could retire a little early. Not ONE problem in 12 years! She's been amazing. But she doesn't feel safe or comfortable for long car rides anymore. How can I be so disloyal?ack! Help me BTD!
We had a CRV that we really liked. If you don't want an SUV then Accord. We now have a Toyota Highlander Hybrid that we like even more. Wanted the extra room for long trips, but it also is quieter, has a better ride, and better MPG.

So far we have finished paying for our upcoming cruise in May, and purchased my 1st prescription for treligy and for albuterol. But we started loooking for my DW a new SUV,her 2019 Hilander hybred needs new tires so she says it is time to trade,LOL So far we have tried out, Kia Sorento,Hundia Palisades, and Toyota Venza. We are going to Chattanooga today to look at Subaru, and Mazda. She wants to stay with the same size suv so it is a hard thing to find, especially since she wants a differant color. It seems that most dealers around here only want to stock White, silver, black or the new ugly "Shiney Primer" grey color. We aren't in a great hurry tho so we will look till we find the "one"!

Hehe-been blowing dough on travel and adding on:

Australia-Feb, US east-west-east coast road trip-May-Jun, UK-Scotland hiking-crochet retreat holiday, August-Whidbey Island, October-Patagonia....also a fence for my yard....and VPW says I can spend more...can't bring myself to spend as much as VPW says...so maybe not really blow the dough.

Loving retirement!
What’s your Australia itinerary look like ? We are planning to go in July/august. Never been.

Bought Eliquis for 3 months - $725+
I filled my prescription for a drug I’m on and met my $2000 max out of pocket. Given the cost of the prescription, I wasn’t sure if that was a BTD or a cheap wad find.

I am in the same market and settled on a 2024 Palisade Caligraphy. By settled I mean that is what I intend to buy but haven't found the right one yet. Please keep us updated on what you choose and why.

I purchased a 2024 Palisade Caligraphy last July. It is a great vehicle for us. You should be happy with your choice.

After going to Europe for the first time last year, I am planning two trips in 2025 - a Rhine river cruise and a land tour of France and Spain. Splurged on businss class airline tickets which were expensive but much more affordable than the 2024 prices. I turn 70 this year and want to travel in comfort.

So new tires won't do it? Even that can be BTD. We have a 2021 HiHy, and would only replace it with another. You can change the color.

DrRoy, Yes new tires would do it but--She wants another vehicle soooo-- we are on the hunt. At least this time she has waited longer. We struggled for years and had to buy old vehicles that I would have to fix up to keep running. After we got in better financial shape we would finally be able to buy newer stuff that would be less trouble. My 1st new off the showroom floor was a 2010 Toyota Tacoma that she bought me because I had never had a new vehicle, I always drove older so she could drive newer/new. This might now be too impressive to some folks but to me it was great, because she was showing her love for me in this way. We married 2 weeks after she graduated from highschool because I promised her mother I would wait untill she graduated to get married. She was the 1st in her family to do that. She has put up with me for 53&1/2 years now so if she wants a new vehicle I make sure to get her one if possible.;):smitten:

Good! She deserves the new vehicle! Go for it!

Just paid Spring college tuition for DS and DD1.

I forgot that I had paid these on Saturday. This morning I got text alerts that these amounts had been withdrawn from our account. I freaked out first. I then woke up and remembered.

Years ago in June we did the Viking Grand European Tour - 15 days Budapest to Amsterdam on Rhine and Danube. I did find the flat lowlands close to Amsterdam less visually exciting than the rest of it. I like castles.
