Blow That Dough 2026

I wear wool almost everyday in wintah. I been wearing a wool sweater as a layered part for over 25 years. Still in good shape but is worn but still does it's purpose. I need to invest in anothah great looking wool sweater also.
Watching the Olympics and loved the Team Norway Sweater from Dale of Norway. Found it at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle on sale for $280. This is my 3rd genuine Norwegian wool sweater and they are worth every penny  Got the Navy Blue

DW had a angora sweater knitted by a Swedish exchange student back in 1983. DW loved it until developed an allergy to angora. Gave it to our niece.

Tickets and hotel done for our trip to Hawaii in April
booked house on the coast for our Family group in July
Considering Vegas/Sphere in September for Wizard of Oz, but not booked yet
DH expressing interest again for Sweden, where his maternal Grandparents came from, haven't started the investigation process yet, waiting for him to initiate it!

Nice!

We’re going on the Ancient Isles (Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland) one with a post-cruise Scottish Highlands extension.
Wonderful! My better-half actually took that trip pre-covid as part of a fellowship with National Geographic.

Who knows how much we'll spend... but DW and I have purchased a 1977 Airstream A/Van (aka step van, delivery van). Yes, it's made by Airstream, the same company that makes travel trailers and motor homes.

Even though the A/Van was intended to be a work truck, we are making it into a small camper. I've attached a picture of it in the gravel lot when we purchased it a few months ago. Also attached is an AI generated image similar to what I imagine it may look like when we complete the rat-rod/camper conversion.

We're usually pretty frugal, but have decided to Blow That Dough in 2026!

Good luck! we looked at several options like this and ended up just building out a ford transit extended high roof. Hard work but I loved the project and building it out.

Once again, I’m going to be blowing the dough on my little Maltese Max. He needed a dental after not having one for two years and the estimate was 2K if they needed to pull three teeth. So I take him in for his blood work, which was 350 and having an ECG was optional for $59 and I decided to do it since heart disease runs in his line and his half sister Amy died a year ago from it. Some of his other relatives that another person owns has it also. I am pretty heartbroken over this new development as he is one of my favorite dogs that I’ve ever had.

I actually wasn’t very worried because he’s only eight years old, but the vet called two days later saying that the results were not good and he needs to go see a doggy cardiologist. So I have that appointment soon in the electrocardiogram is 1K. Hopefully he’s healthy enough to have his dental as if he does have a heart problem that’s the last one that I will let him get.

For the past 22 years, I’ve mainly had Maltese because of my allergies and asthma, and I only have about three breeds that don’t bother me. Most of my Maltese have not lived past age 11 and have had a lot of health problems.

Poodles are one of the few breeds that don’t bother me and from my research, they tend to be a lot healthier. So I think my next dog is going to be a little poodle. Ever since I got my first dog 22 years ago, they have been one of my major expenses.
Prayers for your fur baby. We have a rescue Maltipoo that will be later this year. She is our treasure, if Daddy tries to go out to een check the mail, she comes running afraid she is gonna miss out on something. My DW tells everyone that I love that dog more than her. OOOPs she is wrong of course but ............. :smitten:

A BTD story gone wrong - sort of.

Took DW to the Apple Store to get a new phone (iPhone 17 Pro with 512GB - $1299). Her phone (iPhone 15 Pro) had a broken camera lens but she did to want to get a new phone so I was kind of sneaky getting her to the store on false pretenses. Of course she knew what was up once we got to the store. I told her that this was her Valentines gift and she reluctantly went along with the situation. After a few minutes, our turn with the sales rep came and I asked her about the current phone, e.g. how much to fix and how much for trade given the cracked lens. Well, what came next changed the whole deal. The sales associate commences to take the phone out of its case and says, it's just your cover. She pulls the lens protector off and the lens is fine. I didn't even realize it was a lens protector that came with the phone case. So I explain how I'm a bit embarrassed but that I guess we don't need a new phone and thanked her for her help.

The end result is probably the best gift I could have got my very frugal DW. She was grinning ear to ear as we exited the store without spending any money. Best Valentines gift I never bought. Oh well. we went out to eat and I'll chalk this up to a pretty good day.

After years of discussing, waffling, putting off of considering it due to the pandemic, delaying thinking about it last year due to my surgery, we have finally bit the bullet and booked our very first cruise trip. It will be a basic 7 day cruise to the Bahamas, during a busy time of year, on a big ship. Not my first choice, but DW wanted to go with people we know, and a few other families were going on the cruise. They rented a bus to travel to the port and invited us to come along, they have plenty of room, so that helps. So the heck with searching for a "bargain" :) .

Let us know if it was an overall good experience or not.

No BTD yet but will make another push soon on purchasing some more land. I'm getting anxious about getting a deal started with the person that owns the land he is not the best health and aging is not on the good side of each of us and life can change just like that.
If I don't spend it someone else will and my place is something I want to pass along when I'm gone.

Love, love those sweaters - have a few myself - and the Oleana's - which are no longer made and more expensive! I will be buried or burned in those.....

Well couldn't wait time is ticking and contacted the owner a little while ago. The offer and details of the purchase would be very hard to not take my offer. I have mentioned this before but he can rent the land for as long as he lives and I would pay the taxes and own it. He can use the land as it is his also. I will pay more then the going price and over 15 years he would more then double the price per acre of that land. A good fair deal if he wants to part with more of his land.

I got my fingers Xed.

Finally replaced our 13 year old queen sized foam mattress with a KING size mattress RestorePlus Hybrid mattress from Purple and a premium smart base, that can elevate your head or feet.

Is this new land contiguous with the the ranch land you already own?
Do you have over 1000 acres total?
Kinda surprised you can't make a few bucks grazing Herefords or other yummy beef cattle on some of that land...

A friend of mine just did a similar deal. He's 85, owned and hunted his vacant 35 wooded acres for 40 years, and his wife finally talked him into selling it. He sold it to the next door neighbor who told my friend that he can go onto his former property anytime he wants to hunt or whatever.

Friend's wife got the check for the purchase and my friend still uses the property as if it is still his. A win-win.

Hope you get your deal done street!

He never says no and never says Yes!!! I changed the piece of property I asked for the first time a few years ago. I have reminded him of my offer and would negotiate/accommodate him in any way.

The guy inherited this large ranch from two bachelors that owned it. He sold off three large parts and I bought the second largest portion. I then talked him out the old ranch yard in 2021 that was just about ready to bulldoze over till he finally sold that portion to me. Now I'm after a small piece of irrigated ground that is attached to mine. If I can get this piece it would be a nice addition to the place.

The guy had the world by the tail. Owned this huge beautiful place and split it up. He lives off grid busts each day to live. He lives up at about 7000 feet and that is a rough life for an aging person. Ever thing I have bought from him has been a challenge. I'm confident I will get a deal at sometime but would like to get it done sooner then later.

The principal of the ranch years down the road will be a granddaughter.

Does it count if you BTD on others? I wanted solar panels on my roof until I realized my electric bill is too small to justify it so I decided to give DS and DDIL the hookup to the new gas line in their area, plumb their home for gas and have a high efficiency gas furnace installed. They heat with oil now and their oil tank is on borrow time.

Also upgraded to business glass for trip to France in April. My first paid for business class on an international flight. I'm already thinking about business class for Japan trip in spring of 2027.

DW splurged on a different place in the Dolomites for the kids and booked return flights for the same flight home. Keeping it simple as it's their first trip to Europe and we want to make it "easy" since they'll be wrangling 2 kids under 10...

Also bought mom a new laptop as hers sounds on the last leg. Heading there tomorrow to work on the house... And a visit.
