Blow That Dough 2026

Booked & Booking one Cruise a month for first 6 months of 2026 and then one in December. None less than 7 days all on Premium Cruise lines. That will completely Blow our travel budget for 2026.
We did a seven day in January and seven day in March. We have one in Oct, Nov, and December. I feel ya.

Finally replaced the 2 cycle weed whacker after 11 years with a 20v Dewalt that happens to fit the old attachments I already have. The 9AH battery allowed me to trim the bushes and whack the weeds with plenty to blow it all off.

I had to get their big one for the attachments to work.

Some major blow that dough action committed to this week. We’re doing a complete remodel of our kitchen with high quality cabinets, all new appliances including a 48” Sub Zero refrigerator, quartzite countertops and new tile flooring. Throw in a new 2026 BMW X5 40i SUV after giving away two cars to our kids. It’s going to be an expensive year!😅

I love it!

BTD in the near future. My trusty 2011 Camry hit 156K miles and still drives well. But the paint is faded, and a couple of estimates for recommended repairs (that do not impact its driving) has me thinking "as sentimental as I am for a car that has lasted this long, why put any more money into it?" So I am in the process of testing driving several "newly used" compact or small SUVs, to replace it, and should be making a decision in the next couple of weeks.

Replaced a old but good working range with a Frigidaire range that has induction top and convection oven. Couldn't stop there, so replaced an old refrigerator that was working well, albeit with a few glitches, with a LG french door stainless steel.

Been BTD on vehicles mostly in the last couple years, 3 of them to be exact. When I see this thread I get more inspired to get a deal done on more land. I'm still hoping for adding more acreage to my ranch.
I want to BTD so bad and I think it will happen but the being patient part is rough.

This year will be a big BTD year...started out with a roof leak Jan 1 which cost us $150K for a new roof. This also included solar off and back on and some siding work to properly flash the metal roof. My new 2027 Lucid Gravity is on order. And DH didn't bat an eyelash when the bill for his 2 custom made shirts (first time ever for custom made) came to just over $600. I'm so proud of him . Spending money on non-necessities doesn't come easy to either of us but we're trying . And we're off to a college graduation next month...the check to the new grad will be for big $$$.

150k? Wow, perhaps a case for no solar?

Don't understand. We have solar, but had to remove the panels then re-install them. Unfortunately, everything in the SF Bay Area is super expensive unless you want to hire a handyman. Our solar company went bankrupt and we had to hire an experienced company who was willing to work with proprietary equipment. We made the huge mistake of trusting the solar company to assess the condition of our roof...unfortunately, all they wanted was to sell us their product. The actual cost of the roof itself was 'only' $97K. Additional costs were installation of Vulcan Vents as well as the discovery of rotted siding on one of the chimneys. Home repairs never end.

Well, things moved fast. I brought my Camry into CarMax and received a (in my view) good offer for it, given the work that it needed. Within the 7 day offer acceptance period, a 2024 Hyundai Tucson with 12K miles became available, and the combination of the trade-in and price made sense to use. The car does not have a lot of "bells and whistles", but since it is our third car, we intend to use it as we used the Camry, and that suits our needs well. We have 9 days left to change our mind, but so far so good.

Welp, for some reason, I decided we needed a snowmobile??
Wasnt looking. It's not new but in good shape. So we are now owners of a snowmobile going into summer.
Yep makes perfect sense.
I've also decided, after seeing a pair for sale, that a set of pole climbing boot spikes would/might come in handy to fell several large trees needing cut out off our rock cliff:confused:
Your never too old to find new ways of hurting yourself!!

How large and what type of roof for a $97k replacement? Only asking out of curiosity...

Thankfully we have local guys that do that stuff to keep me from hurting myself too bad.
$150 to cut a 100' aspen leaning towards my cabin is pretty darn cheap.

Annual blood work, doc said I was healthy and will live a long time??
I'm holding him to it, regardless of my actions!

Mini-BTD: with grandchildren in the local Embassy Suites last night. I live 3 hours away and this is a favorite part of my visits. It also gives DS and DDIL time together.

Mid-BTD; when I get home I’m facing an expensive replacement of blower motor and cleaning of other parts of my furnace after two birds flew in, got trapped, died and got dissected. Ick. They will also put a screen over the pipe from outside into the house that should have been there all along.

Major BTD: moving up to a retirement community here. House goes on the market in a few weeks. I will be very glad to let go of home maintenance issues.

40sq feet of standing seam metal roof. We have lots of 'details' including 2 bays. We had another estimate for $90K but decided to go with the higher one because they could schedule us sooner. Before we decided on a metal roof, I got an estimate for a shingle roof..$65K o_O. It took 2.5 weeks (labor days; lots longer due to rain delays) to install.

Edited to add: also new gutters and gutter guards (required as we are in a higher fire area).

I like your new avatar!!

We sold our home four months ago and are awaiting our expensive CCRC to open up (we are #1 on waitlist). We are getting antsy, so impulsively decided to allocate two months worth of CCRC monthly fees to an international vacation. While business-class airfare was paid with miles/points, the rest will be blown on luxury hotel, great food, and some guide services. BTD!

DW wants me to remodel the master bathroom. New tile floor and walls. New freestanding tub. New shower and glass surround. Wainscoting. Bidet. Lighted mirrors. Lots of electrical and plumbing. Most of the dough probably won’t get spent until 2027.

Long story short, a hail storm two years ago led to a new BTD garage last year (why put a new roof on an old garage?). Garage is as big in sq footage (basically two cars deep x two cars wide) and height as allowed on our city lot, so fits our camper van, a car, motorcycles, woodworking equipment, lumber, snowblower, etc. We had it built, but I ran air lines and speaker wire and drywalled (11' walls!). Yesterday finally decided to move forward with and purchased supplies for 3' wainscoting with galvanized corrugated panels (PVC boards top and bottom of the panels) both for looks and so I don't beat the daylights out of the drywall moving equipment and lumber around. I think that's the last BTD on the garage itself (future BTD on stuff IN the garage is another story).
