I still enjoy teaching data analysis and the importance of challenging the measurement of data. Most people have heard of the "Blue Zones" book or Netflix show.

This was a fun read:

"Regions where people most often reach 100-110 years old are the ones where there’s the most pressure to commit pension fraud, and they also have the worst records."

Fantastic article. I agree that most people think a statistic must be accurate because, well, data. I appreciate people who really dig into it. Thanks for sharing.

Whew. You are now free to do the exact opposite of the Blue Zone people. Crisis averted. Return to normal terrible habits. :)

All I can say is: the Ig Nobel prizes derive from my alma mater, so I'm happy to read about them...

I like to remember what my grandparents ate. No processed foods. Fresh vegetables, grew their own meat, ate well. Grandpaw's favorite snack was a raw egg mixed with sugar. But he was a farmer so was very active even in his later days.
Point being is the food quality they had was much better than any of the processed food available today. Also probably much better than fresh veggies and meats unless truly organically grown. Organic meaning NO dangerous pesticides or artificial fertilizers.
We do try and eat a similar diet. Fresh local veggies whenever we can find them. And meat, gotta have my meat. And ice cream. And bacon.

VERY active work life was the main takeaway I got from my Blue Zone reading.

Think go out & shepherd the flock for mile after mile after mile.

Or spend all day nearly every day working a subsistence farm.

No thanks!

I worked construction to help with college so I could spend the rest of my working life indoors.

I've wondered if living uphill from town had anything to do with living longer. I've visited places where people seem to grocery shop every day (based on the one bag they carry out). Then they walk home, uphill. Streets are narrow, there's nowhere to park, and it's 1/2 mile from the store, so walking to get fresh food every day is just what people do. Quite a contrast to driving to the fast food joint and going through the drive-through or ordering DoorDash from ASCVD-are-us restaurant.
