BPH Options

The drugs (and I tried several of them) never helped me that much.
So I had my friendly urologist do the Roto-Rooter thing in 2008 and again in 2020.
Both times I had great results, so I won't hesitate to do it again when I eventually need it.

I know it's scary, but I think some men are needlessly chicken about it. I've read that the success rate of the classic TURP is close to 90%.

Serious question then: Why all the "new and improved" options?

My dad had TURP and seemed to do well with it though I never quizzed him on the details. That was all maybe 35 years ago or more.

Suggesting an answer to my own question: Maybe it's just the "thought" of TURP means someone HAD to come up with something that "sounded" better??

(the guy here who had his aquablation canceled due to insurance BS):

Met with my new urologist. This guy is sharp; very impressed. Have my new procedure date set for June (have to wait until then due to travel commitments). He put me on finasteride for the three months in addition to the tamsulosin that I have been taking for years.

So glad that you were able to find someone and get the procedure scheduled! Best luck.

TURP has long been the golden standard of care and is very effective. Newer treatments have a much shorter recovery time and (typically) fewer long-term side effects (retrograde ejaculation) and are more effective in treating larger prostates.
