Hi Folks,

I recently hired a painting company to paint the interior walls and ceilings. The guy who owns the company and I hit it off immediately and developed a nascent friendship. When he finished my job, he asked me if I’d be interested in representing his company at BNI (Business Networking intelligence). It’s basically a weekly meeting where you share contacts and job prospects with other industry folks. Basic networking 101 I suppose, but structured.

Have any of you in your professional life used this company? If so did you find it worthwhile?

**I should add he is planning to greatly expand his company’s footprint to include becoming a GC for large projects as well. He doesn’t just do painting primarily, but has deep knowledge/experience with building trades in general.

Thanks

Tetto

I have no experience with BNI, but it sounds a little bit like my local Chamber of Commerce which hosts regular "Business After Business" events where chamber members and non-members get together to talk business.

I'm familiar with BNI -- indirectly, since I knew someone who was very active in it some years ago. It can certainly be useful for small business owners. As you'd expect, its effectiveness is entirely dependent on the chapter you belong to and the commitment of its members.
