Some other ideas, may not work for severe back pain:

Gentle stretching
Core strength exercises
Heating pad
Warm showers / hot baths
Weight loss if you're overweight
Cortisone shots

I've known a number of people who have had back surgeries of various types. They can be excellent cures, or do absolutely nothing - my rough guess from my anecdata is about 50/50. Many spine surgeons will recommend spinal surgery because, well, they're spine surgeons.

Had to watch Tampopo again last night. Most of the movies I've seen were watched on television, and years ago. Discovered that, as with Slapshot, re-watching them on TV now is a whole new deal as far as dialogue and visuals go. For me, Slapshot wasn't improved with Newman swearing, while Tampopo was able to really expand on the experience of the sensuality of food. What a treat of a movie!
Yes, Tampopo is a good ramen appreciation tutorial. The bit on that dying woman is over the top melodramatic IMHO, but that is also the most memorable part unfortunately.

ugh I can't watch movies on TV at all anymore; they often cut bits and pieces so they can fold in more commercials, and often they do this bit of popping up an ad at the bottom of the screen while the movie is playing. For me it's incredibly distracting/annoying and that's when I cancelled my cable for good (and part of why I watch little TV in general).

Rewatching movies seems to always add to the experience as I rarely 'get' everything the first time around. Lines and phrases can make more sense to me, having some idea where the story is headed. Lord Of The Rings series for example. I've read the books a few times as well. The lessons are there and revealed each time, but not all every time. The cinematography is amazing, camera angles, the sets, etc.
In my opinion, if a movie isn't worth watching a 2nd time, it wasn't worth watching the first time most likely.
Also, I have Xfinity/Comcast with a billion choices of apps to view anything, anytime. I also have an LG OLED 77" screen TV with a good surround sound system. Scenes from Top Gun and other action movies really come to life. When I demo my TV to others with certain scenes from movies like that, they feel as well as see and usually need to sit down. I got us some theater seats as well that add to the experience. Even stuff like TV game shows; Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, are great viewing. Survivor series started again last night and it's amazing video quality I'm able to see the dirt right in the pores of the skin on their faces. The shades of green in the surrounding jungle, and of the water. I don't normally rewatch those shows, but I do rewind and watch some scenes over a few times. I DVR everything so I can cut out the commercials.

Agree on the strident dying mother scene, though arguably plausible for some families, but the beauty and emotions conveyed in her final smile - award for best actress in 1.5 second scene.

If I liked it the first time, I will like it over and over, lol.
I can re read books, too.

Rarely, but I just did today on a flight from London- "Jaws", a favorite of my late ex- husband. He loved deep-sea fishing (but not for sharks) and could recit all Captain Quint's lines.

Like others, I'm more likely to re-watch if it's been a few years.

I used to suggest rewatching something that we'd seen perhaps a decade or more ago; DW always would nix it because "we've seen that." So I've given up. There are many I see on netflix I'd like to see again but I just give up. Suppose I could fire up the TV during the day which we don't do except sports on weekend when she is in other room but it's not that important to me.
This sounds a lot like us. Sometimes I’ll start a movie, but not quite remember it, but sure enough, she does. lol
It depends on how much time has elapsed and how good the movie was.
This is how I feel. I have a movie collection (DVD & VHS) that I add to from mostly book sales that have movies. Some are one and done, but if it’s good enough I’ll hang on to it and rewatch it on the treadmill.

I can, but only great movies. Think no country for old men or office space.

I don’t watch movies twice or read a book again. I can’t imagine enjoying it.

I don't enjoy rewatching the same movies. Maybe because I'm into mysteries; there is no mystery the second time around.

For me, a really good mystery has some foreshadowing that I miss the first time around. I like finding these new connections.

If every foreshadowing was obvious, it probably would not be a good mystery story, so you should almost expect to catch some new ones the second or even third time around.

And there are the 'false flag' foreshadowing scenes. Some recently watched mystery, one of the characters was coughing/sneezing as they walked through a garden area, and we both said to watch for that - is it a clue? Nope, had nothing to do with it, it was just obvious enough to make you wonder. They got us!

Every Christmas Eve we watch the 1951 Alistar Sim version of A Christmas Carol ("Scrooge") in B&W -- have done it every year for the past 45 years and probably will until I am in the ground.

I realized I should’ve qualified the poll, depends a lot on what genre the movie is. DW can watch lots of movies over, but I don’t see any point in watching mysteries or other movies with surprise endings over - there’s no surprise anymore. Case in point from post #1, The Sixth Sense, a great movie that I don’t see any reason to watch more than once, maybe twice to see if you missed anything the first time. It would be great if I could have the same sensation after the first viewing, but nope…

I re-watch movies all the time, especially the zombie movies. I never get tired of watching zombie apocalypse over and over again.

Seriously, some movies that have depths are worth re-watching. I think as we get older, our perspectives change due to accumulated life experiences and knowledge. So, watching the same movie again years later can bring on a different kind of perspective and a new level of appreciation.

I think it's same with the books, especially some of the classics, so I will go back and re-read some books also.

Wife and I just re-watched Blues Brothers 2000. My recollection of it was that it was just awful, a terrible sequel to the original BB, but... I do recall that the concert scenes were great, worth watching, and worth a re-watch.

It wasn't as bad as I recalled though, yes, not serious, you gotta take it with a large grain of salt, but not so bad, and man, so many musicians that I thought had already passed by the time the movie was made. The concert scenes are great, Billy Preston, Dr John, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, James Brown, the list goes on...

Also there are some movies that have subtler things you can miss the first time which might merit watching it again, like MASH or Catch-22.

That is why we stream netflix, no commercials which on TV are so disruptive and use up about 15 minutes of my life each hour of a movie

Same here for the most part, however, sometimes we start watching a movie and after an hour realize it's familiar and we had watched it years ago.. Yet we don't know what is about to happen next, so we finish it off.

I have only watched a handful of movies a second time and it usually requires that I wait a decade or two before I would even consider it.

I can stop and watch these movies when given the chance:
Jaws
Any of the classic Alfred Hitchcock movies
The Awful Truth
MyFair Lady
The original Parent Trap
Dr. Zhivago

Generally speaking, no, I cannot rewatch movies. However, if they are really good, I can. It depends on the genre too.

I can't watch relationship dramas more than once. I can watch some action/adventure/thriller movies more than once. Comedies? Rarely. Science Fiction? Yes, if they are good or have great FX.

all the time... I just rewatched Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, Charade, American Fiction and Get the Gringo. I'm currently going though all Nic Cage movies and I should be finished some time in 2040 (assuming he stops making movies tomorrow).

A few, if enough time has passed, and I really, really like them.

I have re-read books . . .

I've always had the thought that I can only watch a movie once.

What we've noticed is that we will start watching a movie we think we have never seen before, and about 15 minutes into it, realize we've seen it before... but we cannot predict the next few scenes, sometimes we do know the ending but the middle part is a blank. So we still enjoy it.

We joke that should we both get alzheimer's really bad, we can just buy 5 movies and watch them repeatedly to the end.

Yes it does worry me, but everything else seems ok...
This happens a lot lately, Ms G is the spoiler.

In general I can with most of my favorites. The only movie though that I saw twice in theaters was Titanic.
