Can't believe it

UPDATE:
Well it took four months to become comfortable with the idea but I just gave my notice today. Apparently, running 500 different calculators over the past 10 years wasn't enough for my brain. It needed me to run 1000. At any rate I did it. My boss asked what was next, I told her I was torn between professional poker player, and lead singer of a polka band.

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement, the kind words and sharing your stories. It all helped me get to where I am right now. See you in the Life After Fire forum...
Bob
Congratulations on making your decision. Do keep us posted on your exit count down. Enjoy the last few days!

Right now it's a mix of excitement and blind panic... :p
My decision came so quickly that there was no time for panic. Assignment changed on a Friday. Decided over the week end. Next Friday was last day. Barely had time to say good bye to everyone. I recommend this method.

Congratulations! Happy for you and excited for you to start your next phase in life.

Welcome to the fun part of life.

congrats! I just announced the other week and gave them a few months of runway before I left given the years & my position at the organization. Same feeling of almost instant relief / weight off of my back...and now I just need to keep it somewhat together vs. just saying "I am outa here next week". Hard to stay focused when the writing is on the wall and I spend more time on Google Flights than retirement or finance sites now. ;-)

Congrats to the others who are out soon.
For me, next Wed is the day, but with the holiday and packing up the work computer realistically I've got about 2 or 3 working days left. They've kept me busy these last few hoping I can wrap up some projects. Today I told my boss I'm happy to try and finish but if people don't get reviews and feedback to me there isn't much I can do. So I've put in about 2 hours (all meetings) today, then took the dogs for a walk around the yard. The curent feels like temp is 12F. That got me to thinking I really need to figure out what I'm going to do for the winter when I'm stuck inside. I have a metric ton of outside hobbies, but inside is a little more limited. So far I'm thinking:
Get back into weight lifting
Work on my pool game
Wipe and rebuild my computer
I've got some recipes I want to can
I need more lol

Congrats! This forum should be required reading (or do they not do that anymore? ) for all high school seniors.

The things I've learned here have been invaluable!

Update 3:
I made it :) I logged off for the last time this afternoon. Feels weird to know I'm done with regular paychecks. It's odd, I wasn't super excited as I thought I'd be, probably because the last three years have felt like semi-retirement. I'm also not as nervous as I thought I'd be. I came to the acceptance that I had to believe in the plan. The alternative is if I didn't believe in the plan, then what is the option? To work another six years to SS? Nope. I've accepted the plan.

Thanks to all here who have contributed success stories over the years. Reading those really, really helped.
