We are looking at using the Chase Ultimate Rewards to book an international flight on Delta. I am curious if you are able to "split" the booking (business class one way then economy on the return trip) once it's booked? As I understand, it depends on the airfare code that I am unable to find on the UR booking website. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I looked at UR for a MSP/LHR flight and the ONLY option it offered was basic economy which doesn't even let you select your own seat..I'd call if you really want to do this.

I am slightly concerned about the "basic economy" as well since it has some severe restrictions (as in you don't get your seat until you check in). However, looking at the Delta site, they aren't showing a "basic" fare for the trip, only a main cabin, which you *should* be able to upgrade. I am seeing that some folks have issues with "lack of clarity" from the UR site as to which class fare you booking into.

Perhaps I should just book though Delta and use the points somewhere else or at another time; At least *then* I can pick the seats.

You know I can't remember if I saw basic economy on the first page of UR or only after I clicked thru to the reservation details. That killed it for me as I wanted to buy up to select comfort after I bought the ticket.

Delta is actually running some pretty good international sales for the next few days. Check their specials page I was just looking at it yesterday.

Thanks for the heads up. I went ahead and pulled the trigger and booked it through Delta. I wanted to be able to do the economy plus seating (I am almost 6'3" and really don't like being cramped) and the UR website just wouldn't specifically say if I would be booked into a rate class that would allow for that. The legroom is one thing, but being stuck in the back of the plane (and not getting a seat assignment until checking in) and then being the last one in line for customs is an absolute nightmare. Not only to mention the possibility of being bumped...just wasn't worth the risk.

The good side to this is that I was able to use my second $300 credit from the Chase Reserve card so I can confirm that if you time it right, you can get two $300 credits in a calendar year. :D

Select comfort or economy plus is a nice product..I highly recommend the row of 2 bulkhead seats if you have it on your flight. The legroom was to die for and it was very quiet due to being close to the FC curtains.

Sorry, a little too late in posting this. We booked a KLM flight recently by phone with the UR site person. She was very easy to deal with. She said we could upgrade to the better seats on the KLM site. We did upgrade the seats with no problem. For KLM there is a cost for booking any seat ahead of the checkin, so we just chose the seats we wanted. I don't recall if we could have chosen business class as we were not going to go that route.

We were booking a flight out 9 months and those seats were already gone. So for best selection, book really early.
