Chair on Rug

I've moved my rolltop desk to the living room. I keep it neat, and it actually make the room more cozy.

But I'm worried about damaging the carpet. the chair has five hard rollers. I don't want an ugly plastic chair mat, and I don't want it to roll easily.

Ideas?

If you don't want it to roll consider a different chair. Most mats other than plastic will bind under the wheels, and could cause the chair to be tippy.


Or


Consider a cloth matt with a strong/thick backing. Something that won't bunch under the chair but will provide enough resistance to prevent carpet damage. Perhaps something designed for the front doorstep?

Chairs with wheels are great in the workplace, not so great in one's home with most flooring choices. I'm perfectly happy with an extremely comfortable desk chair without wheels.

Or, maybe a tile floor? But that would affect the acoustics.

I use one of the clear plastic mats. Also available (and I used one) are articulated wooden strip mats. Didn't look better and also broke down.

I actually have a slightly UNCOMFORTABLE chair in front of my computer. An effort to discourage the kids (and myself) from sitting in front of the computer too long.

I take it one step further.
I got rid of the computer chair a couple of years ago. I have an elevated keyboard pedestal there with enough room on it for a mouse, and I'm perfectly content standing there to use it. When I start feeling fatigue, it means I've used it long enough and should go do something else.

How about an anti-fatigue runner mat, made of heavy duty vinyl ? This one comes in a marble pattern.

Since you don't want to roll around easily, the vinyl should provide enough friction against the chair wheels without causing a tipping hazard from too much resistance to rolling.
