This is a very basic question, but I want to know how this works before I rock the boat.

In June 2022 I enrolled in a Humana Plan G and Aetna Part D using a Medicare specialist insurance agency Sun City TX recommended by friends, who had gotten the name from friends, who got the name from friends ...

The enrollment was fine ( OK, the guy was a bit of an condescending jerk), but there has been zero contact or service since from the office. In particular, in May 2024 I had an issue in which Humana kept saying that CMS had not forwarded claims for Plan G, CMS said they had indeed sent claims, and I got no help sorting this out.

QUESTION 1: should the agency office have helped sort this out, or is their role now to collect commission year-after-year, as passive income?

QUESTION 2: if I want to switch to a different insurance agency (still in TX, where I am domiciled) can I do that? I want to keep the same Humana and Aetna plans but I want an office that will step in when needed to untangle insurance issues.

QUESTION 3: if switching agencies is OK, do I simply contact the new insurance office and explain? And must I do this before open enrollment begins? (My Part D is on a calendar year cycle, but my Humana Plan G renews in June).

Call Boomer Benefits. They have a FB page and a website. BB does exactly what you want in that if there are issues with your claims, call them and they will do the leg work to find out what's going on, with an end result. They only get paid from the insurance company you choose/use; you do not pay them. Great ratings too. I signed with them this past August.

+1. They will check it out for you, and you'll know for sure if the switch will pass underwriting - that's the unknown for anyone who wants to change providers. If you're relatively healthy you can probably switch, if not the new provider probably won't accept you.

I don't want to switch providers (very happy -- in theory -- with Humana Plan G). I just want service/help from the agency if there are issues with claims.

I would give Cameron and the rest of his staff another chance. If Cameron is the one you don't like, I would email Wayne; he always replies the same day to email. That said, I don't know if their role is to be your ombudsman to the insurance company. Please let us know what you learn and decide what to do.

Who is Cameron? Wayne? No one at the agency that I used near Sun City by those names (that I know of)

That is strange, Texas Medicare Shop is the only agency I know of near Sun City (used to be located in Sun City). Cameron is in charge and was extremely useful in 2022 when I first signed up for Medicare. He handed us over to Wayne Coates once we got enrolled. If you are using someone else in that agency I would gladly send you Wayne's or Cameron's email. If you are using some other agency I am a bit surprised but I have been surprised so many times before.

That's the agency. But I didn't deal with any one named Wayne or Cameron in 2022 when I signed up. I am still inclined to move to an Austin agency.

Write to Cameron at cameron@texasmedicareshop.com and tell him your issue with his staff; give him a chance to either correct or help you move to another agency. Only other agents I know of are Gentry and Ashley and I haven't worked with either of them.
