Cheapwad Finds--Opposite of Blow That Dough!

Bet you go back there sometime.
I'm not so sure. I like the place, but it's pretty far away from the things I like to do, so I wouldn't pay a premium to stay there. $29.50? Sign me up! $59? Maybe, maybe not. And I don't even get the chance at the $29.50 unless I agree to the $59 for some unspecified period of time.

Plus there's the principle--I avoid buying things if I don't know how much they cost. We're scrambling to find a place to stay in Phoenix during the middle of snowbird season, and if a website says "call for rates" I don't even bother. In that case, I of course could find out the rate (assuming they answer the phone), but I prefer to do business with places that are transparent about their prices. And, perhaps unbelievably, giving me an undisclosed and unexpected 50% discount falls into the unfavored non-transparent category, even though it works to my financial benefit.

Me, neither. But I do understand the "message" when people who are poor are given stuff that is inferior. Like Toys for Tots--they don't want used toys even if they're in perfect shape, and I completely understand that.
The problem I have with the policy is when it comes to canned food. Canned food will last almost indefinitely. We've eaten food that was canned at home (green beans) which was several years old and I could not tell any issues with the food. I imagine that corporate canned food would do even better. It's really "criminal" to throw canned food away when there are people hungry.

I do not understand that. I grew up with left overs and hand me downs and thanked God for them. I got to wear decent clothes that my parents could afford because they were some "rich" person's cast offs.

Cheapskate rant: Town tax bill went online which is nice. They charge a $0.90 fee to do this online. No biggie. Now it went to a $1.50 fee. So cheapskate me now pays by check in person at the Town booth that takes payments. Instead of encouraging advanced and efficient payments the Town punishes you for it. Grrr.

$1.50 is more efficient than wasting time and gas.

Egg McMuffin or Sausage McMuffin with Egg breakfast sandwich for just $1, available exclusively through the McDonald’s App on Sunday, March 2.

Two unopened, not expired boxes of my cat’s favorite cat food for $7 dollars per box less than the typical price! Kitty will be happy.

Two dozen DVD's (used) for $25 with tax.
Over the last few years we've bought a lot of used DVDs, always at a good price. For example, all 8 seasons of Dexter for $30, or movies for $1 or $2 each.

After we watch them we give them away to friends and family. They do the same so the cost of each movie or series is shared among several people.

At the local Pawn Shop, they are $0.50 each here. I guess no one (or the vast majority of people) don't use CD/DVD's anymore due to movies being streamed.

I haven't been to a pawn shop in decades, but it might be worth checking one out to stock up.

We don't have internet at our cabin yet so DVDs are ideal. Also, there are still plenty of movies and series that aren't available to stream or available but we don't subscribe to that service.

Probably why they are so available (and cheap) at the resale shops.

I use my DVD player about once a month to watch shows on subscription services that I don’t subscribe to. I get the season’s DVD set from the library and spend a few weeks watching the episodes. There is plenty of other stuff on the streaming channel(s) I subscribe to as well as OTA TV that I record, to keep me happy while I wait for the library DVDs to arrive.

^^^ Negligible demand combined with huge supply. We haven't used our DVD player for over 10 years.
We canceled cable TV and only have Prime and Netflix for streaming, and we'll probably cancel Netflix soon.

Cheap DVDs fill the void.

Do you have access to local news? I'd feel lost without that access.
