Cheapwad Finds--Opposite of Blow That Dough!

So I guess if they didn't see the whole weevil, they just assumed they were eating the lessor of two weevils :)

What's worse than finding a worm in your apple?

Finding half a worm...

Extra thick oats from Azure Standard for me. 50lb bag for less than $60 delivered to my door. Store them in a couple of big plastic containers and the bag lasts me for several months. Better than Bob’s, which seems to be more pasty due to too much oat dust, and miles better than anything from Quaker.

I tried steel cut, but it was just too much work. The extra thick Grain Millers brand I get from Azure is just as hearty as steel cut and way easier to cook. I used to get the big bags from Honeyville, but they seemed to go in and out of stock frequently. I gave up waiting for them to come back in stock.

I have found a cheap way to eat lunch at Whole Foods. The pizza by the slice is $4. I add to that a fruit cup from the produce section. Those are variously priced by type and weight. If you're lucky there will be some 50% off. Easy lunch under $10. Yesterday my tab was $6. There was a couple checking out in front of me. They had two lunches from the hot food bar, just over $50 for the two!

There’s a reason why WF is referred to as Whole Paycheck.

Our local TIMES grocery has plate lunches with a generous meat portion, three veggie selections, can of soda at around $12 to $14. It easily lasts for two full meals. Nice to pick up a couple of entries, split them at a picnic area overlooking the Pacific and then taking home enough to eat the next day (or that night - almost too much for two meals in the same day). Too bad they've gone up from $8 or $9 3 years ago but that's why we have an inflation thread.

Most of our local groceries have a deli with several meat, shrimp, fish, veggie, and potatoes, pasta, or rice selections. Some charge by the pound others are a set price. Also quite a few convenience/gas stations have a deli with similar selections. Easy way to get a satisfying lunch.

That's a good deal! When I go home to see family, there's a hot/cold food bar at the supermarket that makes the ones Whole Foods look like a bargain since it's on a super touristy island. We will often grab the smallest sized container to pick up a few prepared proteins, since we pretty much always have a pot of rice and bean at home. Total usually comes to $12-14 for two servings. Not super cheap, but convenient.

They also have a "boxed lunch" type cardboard container which is popular among tourists, especially cruise ship folks looking for a "cheap" lunch. By weight, the "boxed lunch" container costs over $4 empty. It's normal to see families of tourists spending well over $100 on 4 boxed lunches. Add in some of the Fiji waters and soft drinks found between the prepared foods and the checkout, and the total is closer to $150 for a grocery store lunch.

Our local grocery store was having a sale on Pillsbury Crescent Rolls (tube of 8 rolls) normally $3.49, and this week $2.99...that is a pretty good deal.
To encourage more volume, they had a special when you buy 5 or more, you get an additional $1 off, making them $1.99 each...that is a pretty good deal.
They had a few tubes that had a Best Use Date within 2 weeks, and those were marked down to $1.15 each...that is a pretty good deal.
We found 6 of those $1.15 tubes, and when we checked out, we also got the $1 off for buying 5 or more...so, our net price for each tube of 8 crescent rolls was $.15 each or about $.02/roll...that was a pretty good deal!!

$0.99/pound for Boston butt pork. Cooking both and going to freeze one. The Orion with the propane mod makes it easy ... set and forget until the probe beeps.
