Class of 2025

Reviewing some numbers today... DW has 103 more days to go...

:greetings10:

It's been a while since I've been here at the forums, but a surprise voluntary separation program with a very generous offer has landed in my lap (age 59), and I'll be accepting it. Assuming they accept my acceptance, my last day would be around the end of July.

This is probably only about 2 or 3 years earlier than I had expected to leave work, having already cut my hours to 30/week a few years ago, and had been ready to cut them to 22/week before this offer came along.

I can tell this is a good decision by how much better I already feel!

Planning on class of 2025!
Prepping to list my primary home for sale next month, then retire when it closes. Moving to our cabin. I am burning through a giant pile of PTO this summer on my way out! I will report back.

DW is to..... Finishes up today with 100 days to go, or 80 days if she does 4 10s. Leaving out tomorrow and wont be back in until July 8th. Have 3 more weeks of camping trips planned before shes done.

The time has come at last.:biggrin: After today, I will have officially joined the class of 2025. Today is my last day of getting up at 3:29 a.m. to report to the daily grind.

We're all set up with ACA subsidized insurance starting Aug. 1st. As of this morning, our retirement plan savings + taxable accounts + checking/savings was around 1.733M. We plan on living nicely on $60K per year ($48K, or $4K per month after the mandatory 20% income tax withholding) to start, which works out to an approximate 3.5% withdrawal rate from our little nest egg.

Our spending so far in the first 6 months of 2025 has been a little over $16K, which tracks closely with last year's spending, which was just under $33K, not counting the $24K we spent on our new retirement road-trip vehicle.

My current 401(k) is up to $457K, and that's what we'll pull the $60K/yr from for the next 5 years until I reach age 59-1/2. Right now, there's another $1.1M in Vanguard (a mix of previous 401(k)s, R-IRA, T-IRA, taxable accounts) waiting for us once I get to be that old. :)

A sincere thank you to all the members of this site who have shared their wisdom and experiences in order to help me reach my goal today. I am a better person today and feel very grateful to have found such an interesting group of like-minded people.

Tomorrow will truly be my Independence Day.

Way to go!

As someone that went one year over their five-year-plan, I applaud your commitment.
