Class of ..... Subforum

I just wanted to post this as a suggestion but I was thinking that having a sub forum for all of the Class of X Year threads would be very helpful to easily find your year should you want to post. I realize this may be too specialized for a sub forum but I thought it was a good idea and wanted to create this thread to get anyone’s feedback.

A quick search shows existing “Class of “ threads going out to 2027 so already we would have to create 8 new sub-forums for 2020 through 2027.

Would we be expected to monitor those and admonish members and/or move threads when members post in the wrong sub-forum, or change their target year?

I actually was just referring to one sub forum that would hold all of the Class of threads. And I assumed there would be a way to simply move the existing threads into the sub forum after it was created to keep things simple. If it is more complicated than I realized I certainly can continue to do my searches for the individual year threads.

Sorry, I don't like the idea. With people self separating into their target years, sage advice, like from older, wiser folks that have been there and have the t-shirt, may be lost.

So far, only 9 “class of” threads have new posts in all of 2020. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of activity, which is one characteristic we would look for when opening a new subforum.

You can do an advanced search on keyword "Class of XXXX", search titles only, show results as threads, to show the thread you want.

Or you could subscribe to that thread, and visit your subscription list through your UserCP, or just bookmark this link: https://www.early-retirement.org/forums/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription

Or you could just bookmark the link for the thread you want.

That's three ways to do it without having the admins add a new sub-forum.

I retired in 2009, and I don't think we ever even HAD a "Class of 2009" thread.

I have no complaints with seeing these threads because really, retirement is the whole point of this site. To me they are cheery and probably encouraging to those who are still working.

I like seeing them too and remember my class thread fondly.

I think the most important thing to make them easy to locate is to follow the “Class of XXXX” thread naming convention for each year.

That's too bad. In the Class of 2016 thread we had a professional yearbook, a graduation trip to Disney World, and a prom!

Wow! We should have started a Class of 2009 thread, for sure.

I think that perhaps the reason there wasn't one, was that it seemed like tempting fate due to the 2008 recession. I actually did think of starting one, but then didn't want to be the only person posting in it.
