Computershare (Transfer Co) Frustration. IBM / KYNDRYL spinoff. Escheatment.

I tried to report my husband's death and have our joint stock transferred to just my name. It was such a hassel I gave up after a few days of trying unsuccessfully and left it to my heirs with my wishes for better luck.

I'm so sorry! I remember after DF passed I had to get Medallion signatures / stamps for anything being transferred through Computershare.

Yea, I had an appointment to get that Medallion signature and, wouldn't you know it, that was the day my car battery decided to give up forever. Just couldn't take an ounce more frustration with it and giving up had the bonus of not having to set up another appointment and redoing the paperwork (because the price info on the paperwork had to be exactly to the penny accurate).

I have some shares with Computer shares. This goes back to the days when I was in an investment club. Every year when I do our taxes I think that I really need to do something about these shares. This thread is reminding me that I need to actually take action on this.

I'm ex-IBM as well and had a trivial amount of shares and thus got an even smaller amount of KD in the spinoff. I transferred all of it to Fidelity and sold it. Hardest part was digging up old records from 30 years ago to find my cost basis for the shares to enter into the system at Fidelity and tracking back what share prices where on the day of the split.
I kept 4 physical shares of IBM to use as wall art... or maybe a dart board.

I never got the letter from Computershare with the temporary password, but yesterday was eventually able to get through to a human and get access to the account. The next step is to see if I can transfer the shares online to Fidelity.

Well color-me-shocked the shares showed up in my Fidelity brokerage account today. Maybe because it was the same owner and a small amount, it went though quickly. The cost basis is still pending.

My next attempt will be a transfer from Equiniti, but I will wait until the dividends post on that account.

Computer Shares might be one of the worst companies I ever dealt with. We had shares trapped there, and their customer service was absolutely dismal. Eventually, we had to go through our brokerage company, Etrade, and they took care of it on their end. The gentlemen I spoke to made it sound like they deal with this company all the time.
