I am having big problems buying condo insurance. I
did not anticipate this. I assumed it would be easy and
the policy would cover about what a homeowners
(or rental property) policy would cover. So far, I have not found anyone to sell me what I want. I cover the personal
property through my Illinois homeowners policy and buy
a separate policy for liability (expensive). Been going with this for 2 years now. This morning I called every out-of- state
owner in our building to pick their brains. The only guy I
actually talked to (North Dakota) said that they also had trouble until they bought more Texas property. Now, they
are okay. I joked that maybe I needed to buy something
else. Currently, my (Michigan) corp. owns the condo,
I reside mostly in Illinois and we rent the condo out to others about 50%+ of the time. My Illinois agent
says "We're not licensed in Texas." A Texas agent thinks
they should still be able to add the whole package onto
my Illinois policy. Any ideas?
