Costco comments and questions

FYI, there’s a Costco Customer Support page on known scams and websites that pretend to be from Costco:

Next Costco purchase must be a new phone from one of the Big 3 cell service providers who haunt Costco stores. This is going to be a costly mistake for you.;)
I made that mistake a long time ago when T-Mobile first rolled out the now-defunct 55+ plan. Got the cheapest Android phone available!

On Christmas Eve, Costco closed early at 5 pm. The weather was gloomy. I drove over at 4:15, bought gas, parked and pushed a cart from the parking lot into the store. There was no line to enter the warehouse. Got a case of Fairlife Chocolate Protein Shakes #1485984. There was no line at the self-checkout stand, or to exit the warehouse. Amazing but totally true!

You obviously don't live in Hawaii. We have the busiest Costco stores in the nation.

Apparently, you will soon be able to live on top of a Costco warehouse:

From today’s online version of the WSJ.

A real-estate developer in Los Angeles is testing a new blueprint for affordable housing: stack apartments on top of a Costco.
Thrive Living is planning to begin construction in early 2025 on an 800-unit affordable-housing complex with the megaretailer on the ground floor

Not sure I'd want to live over a loading dock with all the trucks and fork lifts going "beep-beep-beep-beep..." 24/7. YMMV

Wow, that sounds crazy!

But in European cities it’s very common to have apartments built on top of retail on the ground floor.

One thing we've noticed whenever we're in Europe is that the solid construction of the windows and doors is amazing -- really blocks the noise from the street below or hallway noise in apartment buildings. We have tried (and failed) to find similar grade doors and windows here when remodeling our house. Just could not find the same quality. I definitely wouldn't want to live above a Costco here in the US!

Very common where we live, and where we have lived in the the past.

But just think you could have a $1.50 hot dog with soft drink or a $10 pizza any time from 10am to 8:30pm/6pm every day of the week just a couple of floor below you.

Best to use the stairs if you live above Costco - just saying!

Our downtown Costco in Vancouver is below ground right near our hockey arena and Chinatown. Very handy with underground parking.

Just tried some Kirkland lager. It was surprisingly bad and overpriced. Surprisingly, because Kirkland wine is typically good and a great value.

Just read that Coke products are returning to the Costco food court over the 2025 summer. Coke had been replaced by Pepsi in 2013 to preserve the $1.50 price point for the hot dog combo.

I just tried to print a past warehouse receipt from the mobile app (iPhone), but the Print button does nothing. I updated the app this week, but never tried to print before.

Also, can’t seem to find how to give app feedback from within the app.

Hmm I only ever looked at prior receipts online via a browser.

There is no print option, but I was able to select what’s in the receipt and copy.

Thanks for reminding me of the browser option. I logged on to Costco web site from my Mac Mini browser. The receipt had a working Print button. Go figure!

I bought gas at my local Costco today and noticed the new discount sign on the pump. If you pay for your gas at Costco with the Costco Citi card, the rebate is now 5%. Non Costco gas stations are still 4%.

I'll look forward to that when I go to Costco Gas in a couple more weeks. It's interesting that some gas stations are already more expensive than Costco and they also want to charge for using a CC. Now, Costco is offering an even higher rebate. Nice.

Normally, I use another 2% cash-back card at Costco because I don’t care for the way Citi Bank has reduced CC benefits and I don’t have to wait for a yearly certificate to get my money. But, for 5% off on gasoline at an already low priced station, I will use the Costco Citi card.

Sam's CC has 5% on all gas except for major food stores...

They used to make you wait a year to get the money but have now started letting you use it at the checkout each month...

I am upset that Sam's decided to change their food court requiring you use their app!!! Something I do not want to do...
