Any thoughts or experience with Satellite Hot Spot rentals while on a cruise or middle of nowhere?

Considering renting something in advance instead of the onboard WiFi through the ship.

NY to Bermuda in mid July

Not planning to watch Netflix more read news and maybe place some trades if markets move dramatically (buy dips, not panic sell). Last cruise I went to the health club and watched CNBC while on a treadmill.

Have you done research on the costs of satellite hot spot? At first glance, it looks more expensive. Maybe justifiable for security and privacy?

One problem is that a ship has many metal walls and a metal hull and it's hard to get radio/wifi/cellular signals to penetrate. Even if you have a balcony cabin, you probably won't have the right angle to "see" your satellite most of the time. You'll have to be up on the open deck when you want to use it.

The ship's own service might have a good deal if you purchase in advance. On our last cruise I think it was about $60/week, though we didn't buy it.
