Sirius Radio is rebroadcasting news broadcasts from D-Day June 6, 2024. I found it by going to the website on my phone and searching for D-Day. Not sure whether it's subscription only. I think it's supposed to be available on cars as well, but the channel where it was supposed to be, "Radio Classics" didn't seem to be the right one.
It's very interesting to listen to contemporary reports and try to tease out events without the filter of later historical accounts. For example, it's being heavily emphasized at how unexpectedly light losses and casualties were. I'm used to accounts focusing on how heavy the fighting and casualties were. Were the immediate reports (largely from the armed forces) being upbeat, or was that really the case? I think of all the people around the world who were hoping and praying for D-Day to succeed and listening to the reports.
I wonder what my father heard from his base in Scotland, and my mother, who was in high school. I am thinking of them today!
