Ditching Evernote

I've used Evernote for more than 10 years to store notes of various kinds and keep them in sync between my laptop, iPhone, and iPad. But it has become slow bloatware for what I need, and it continues to have business issues (was just bought out again). The final straw was that they decided to raise the annual subscription price by almost 50%, so it was time for a change.

I had considered Apple Notes several years ago, but it didn't have all the functionality I needed at the time, but I read that it was much improved. I also read that you can now export from Evernote one notebook at a time, and import into a Notes folder. So I tried it and was pleased with the results, except for my large collection of recipes. Then I found Mela which solved that issue (see separate thread Recipe Manager )

I've moved all of my 1500+ notes over to either Apple Notes or Mela and now just need to do some verification before I ditch Evernote for good.

Have you looked Apple’s Freeform yet. Looks impressive, for a free app.

I also use Evernote. Is there an Android system replacement?

Interesting feedback, I reset my Evernote password a few weeks ago after having not using it for many years. I found it had too many features for my purposes and never really used it, opting for basic note taking apps. Based on online reviews I was thinking of trying Simplenote or Microsoft's OneNote.

I hope your migration has gone well.

Another option is Bear if you're in the Mac/iPhone world.

I've been using it as my primary notes app for over a year and I love it.

Some features are free, and the Pro version is $14.99 per year. Well worth it to me. There is a one month free trial of the Pro.

I'm still using the free version of Evernote. I'm limited to having it on two devices, so I couldn't keep it on my Kindle Fire but as long as I have it on my laptop and phone, I'm fine. I use it mostly for text notes, so I can have that info on my phone when I'm away from my laptop, and to take notes on my phone that I want to later put on my laptop. Occasionally I'll save a QR code or bar code for parking or an event ticket.

If Evernote free goes away or becomes too limited I'll find another service like it. I have 51 notes right now, after deleting about 10 that I no longer need. So I'm clearly not a power user like some of you.

OneNote is scheduled to sunset in 2024 or 2025.

I am giving SimpleNote an evaluation. Syncs with windows and Android devices, among others.

I'm not sure this is fully accurate. Microsoft currently offers 2 OneNotes.

From https://techcommunity.microsoft.com...for Windows 10 is,of-support in October 2025:

"Currently, there are two apps: the OneNote app on Windows that is part of Microsoft 365, and OneNote for Windows 10. All of the updates mentioned in this blog are coming to the OneNote app on Windows. OneNote for Windows 10 will not be receiving new feature updates but will continue to be supported until it reaches end of support in October 2025."

You can actually have both installed on your computer at the same time (not sure why anyone would do that over the long term). The non-Windows 10 version doesn't appear to be ending. Only Microsoft could accomplish this confusion.
