Do we still go to concerts? What concerts have you attended in the last few years?

I must be a glutton for punishment...

I just found out Stevie Wonder will be performing at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee in October. DW has wanted to see him in concert for the past decade. It's definitely a bucket list item for her so when I asked her if she wanted me to get tickets, she replied with an immediate "Yes, Please", so I looked online and found two seats in the first row of the upper section. (she is short, and cannot see if anyone stands up in front of us)

Of course, in their blatant discrimination of non-smartphone owners, the forum and Ticketbastard decided to make this show exclusively for smartphones. (their owners get to accompany them) so now I had to try to contact the forum box office and see if there is any way to get into the event without a smartphone if I were to buy the mobile tickets.

Note - We were able to get into the Metallica show last month without a phone. We had to wait in (the wrong) line outside the stadium for an hour to get our paper tickets and missed the first night's opening band, but we got in. Plus I got paper tickets to put in the CD cases, like I've been doing for 37+ years.

According to a press release about the Fiserv Forum and their mobile tickets, here's what they claim:
Now, let's say that you own a flip phone or your mobile device died while you were enjoying a beer before the game. You can still definitely get into Fiserv Forum.
"You can give us a call, and we have solutions for those folks. At no point is this technology meant to prohibit any type of person from getting into the building," said Morningstar, explaining that they can print off tickets or verify your tickets on location at Fiserv Forum for those in need. But they handle these all on a case-by-case basis – and honestly, that'd be more of a hassle than simply downloading an app, making an quick account and hitting a few buttons.

They also claim: Fiserv Forum/Ticketmaster Box Office #: (414) 227-0511 Hours: Event days from 12:00pm (or 3 hours prior to event, whichever is earliest) until approximately 1 hour into the event, and on Saturdays from 12:00pm until 4:00pm. Closed on non-event weekdays.

I tried calling about 20 times an hour today (Saturday) between noon and 4:00pm but sometimes it would ring once and then go to a busy signal. Most times it would ring twice and then switch to a busy signal, but other times it would ring fourteen times before switching to a busy signal. Once, just once, it rang six or seven times and went to an answering machine where it asked me to leave my name, number, and reason for calling and they would get back to me. So I did. And they didn't. So I just went ahead and bought the tickets while they were available for a reasonable price.

I'll try to figure out when the box office is open during the week and try calling them in a few days. Hopefully, I'll be able to pick the tickets up at the will-call section of the ticket office.

Wish me luck!

Lots of acts at area casinos make it pretty easy but the bigger acts are at the bigger venues.
This year or so include:
Toto
Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top
Bacon Brothers (Michael & Kevin Bacon)
John Anderson
Blake Shelton with Dustin Lynch
Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis
Blackberry Smoke
Better Than Ezra
Coming up in a couple of weeks, Jeff Lynn and ELO, can't wait!

Didn't go through all 8 pages. Last 15 years of so or so I have seen. I am not including tribute bands nor shows like Jersey Boys where I have seen 3 times already:
- Frankie Valli
- Journey
- Foreigner
- Rick Springfield
- Olivia Newton-John
- Celine Dion
- Shania Twain (my husband has a crush on her :) She doesn't impress me much. I would not have seen her otherwise :))
- Elton John
- Kenny G (seen him twice, most recently was a couple of years ago)
- Herb Albert and Lani Hall
- Barry Manilow
- Herman's Hermit (Peter Noone)
- Gary Puckett and the Union Band
- Three Dog Night
- Tony Orlando
- Crystal Gayle and Loretta Lynn (a couple of years before Loretta Lynn died. She was a guest at Crystal Gayle's concert)
- Donny and Marie (OK, I am seriously embarrassed.)
- Maroon 5
- Jimmy Buffett (March 2023 and he died 6 months later)
- Abba Voyage - really an avatar animation show in London June 2023
- Alan Parsons Project - last month
- Kansas - this coming Saturday

Went to see Joan Jett about 7 years ago and left after 10 minutes. Everyone was standing up and the noise was unbearable. We cannot do noisy concerts anymore.

Billy Bragg is coming to the Barrymore Theater in Madison next month. Saw him at the same venue about 29 years ago. I think we have better seats this time.

Going to see Staind tonight with the Daughter and SIL. (not really my type, but DW loves them.
Then have tickets for Kansas next month.

Living in Vegas we go to a fair amount of concerts. Actually there's an asterisk there as I work at the stadium so between going to events and working events I go to a lot. Seen in last year: Imagine Dragons, U2, Pink, Morgan Wallen, Billy Joel, Sting, Elton John, Gwen Stefani, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Maroon 5, and the list goes on. Had Adam Ant tickets but he cancelled last minute. Have Eagles at the Sphere coming up which we are excited for. Plus Billy Joel with Sting at the stadium which will be fun. Today's Raider's game has Too Short, among others, at halftime which will fire up the crowd!

Also, there is an interesting phenomenon which happens a lot here in Vegas which are private concerts. Corporate events, charity events and the like. Gwen Stefani, Elton John, Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, etc... all play private corporate events here. Those are all ones I have seen in last year or so.

We attended a charity event Friday night where Imagine Dragons played. They did a bunch of covers for $25k a pop donation.

It's great to see so much musical variety from some of us older folks.
I have plenty of time now to think of my music influences. In my teens I was affected by the music of my generation, like The Beatles, Stones, and so on.

But in the background my father listened to the music of Latin America and Spain. When I studied classical guitar my teacher brought to me sheet music from the masters (Jobim, etc.). I was really drawn to that. When I showed him the record albums of my father, we made a connection.

My children also have influenced my tastes. In particular one has travelled extensively around the world. Like my father he embraces other cultures, and fits in comfortably. We went to Berlin club called Gretchen, and that was amazing. A flamenco show in Barcelona? That was something my father experienced in Madrid, travelling for business.

When I became sick, and was isolated due to COVID, I made a playlist for my children. It is as eclectic as they come. When I added a favorite song (#1 was Baba O'Riley), I'd look for other interpretations, or go with a feeling that arose from that song. And on and on this went. Sometimes I would stick with a genre of the age, and re-examine what I once thought were great bands are really just formula, and nothing new brought to the table.

I could go on about this more, but exploration of the other is a fascinating approach. And my kids will have a chaotic playlist that captures my feelings over many years.

Getting back to concerts attended, my son bought us tickets to see Toumani Diabaté at a small club in Philly (World Cafe Live). This is not live, but the band played from the album, released that year.

Going to Chris Stapleton in April. First one in forever!

Just saw Little Feat last week- they were AWSOME!! They are one of my favorite groups. AC / DC is up next in May

I'm not much into nostalgia, but every few years I take the family to a Springsteen concert. All generations of my family love his music! And being in NE Ohio, there is nothing comparable to the Cleveland Orchestra. We don't go as often as we should, but I absolutely love it every time we go.

Where is he playing in April?

I see shows at MSG in NYC in July that would work for me, but too expensive.

I just looked for Nathaniel Ratlif shows too, I'm just not willing to spend the money to be in an indoor crowd like that anymore.

I've seen him countless times including his holiday and rehearsal shows at Asbury Park Convention Center. There is nothing like a summer time Springsteen concert at an arena with tailgating before. Just such an event.

Sorry, I said April, but actually June (6/4/2025). Damn European calendar notation (04-06-2025)!

It's in Greenville, SC

Copy that. Hope its a great show and you really enjoy it. He's one of my favorites. Such a powerful voice.

Thanks! Yes, very unique! Much like Tyler Childers (uniqueness I mean).

My megacorp had a box at the downtown venue, and if there was no customer or partner override, the tickets were put in a drawing. And the line worker had the same shot at the tickets as those in the C suite. I put my name in for every show, even the bull riding and non-music events. Saw Springsteen, Metallica, James Taylor, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many more. Because the venue was downtown, I parked in a secret free spot, about a 10 minute walk from the venue, and there was a clear shot to the interstate...no traffic jam. Up thread I said I was done with concerts, but I'd go if it was a good venue.

I posted earlier but I had the occasion to recall all the big name concerts I've been to. All were good, some incredible. The biggest surprise was Bryan Adams - he and his band blew us all away unexpectedly, great songs and the highest energy I've ever seen on stage - no tricks or lights, they just 'blew the roof off the place.'
  • Santana (my first experience with a big rock show)
  • America
  • Styx
  • Stephen Stills
  • Elton John
  • Jethro Tull
  • Donna Summer
  • Don Henley
  • Bryan Adams
  • James Taylor ***
  • Sheryl Crow
  • Sting ***
  • Billy Joel (at Wrigley Field)
  • The Police (at Wrigley)
  • Jimmy Buffett ***
  • Donnie Iris
  • Genesis w Phil Collins
  • The Who
  • Kenny Loggins
*** more than once

I kick myself for not taking advantage of seeing Radiohead or Everclear in concert. We walked out of a Grateful Dead concert at Soldier Field in Chicago, Sting opened for them and we left when Sting was done...gave our tickets (paper back then) to some surprised delighted broke Deadheads outside.
