Do you ask chatgpt questions? If so what kind?

They will probably come up with a slider bar before too long where you can adjust the tone of the response from Glaringly Obvious at one extreme over to Marginally Literate at the other...
I guess if I start making sense, you'll know I've slipped to the dark side (aka AI).

I think AI has begun to take on an aura of infallibility. Clearly, like any other computer program: Garbage in = Garbage out. Nor is any system immune from the prejudices of the programmer. See the search algorithms of search engines for such issues. YMMV

I have no idea. Initially they said they were going to update the feature (see link below) but now they are going to suspend it while they investigate. The BBC is not the only news outlet being misquoted.

I heard that sometimes AI has "hallucinations".

I read that OpenAI is launching multitasking AI. It can take control of a user’s computer and juggle multiple tasks simultaneously. Getting scarier!

I bet AI will be soon be able to study this forum and make its own posts for all the members! Basically, it will "play itself".

Gee, so pretty soon we won't have to post anything. Just sit back and read the "cliff notes". Jump back to my post about people becoming lazy because of AI doing everything. No, I'm not a fan of AI.
Maybe not us because of where we are in our life. But younger people might relish not having to put thought and work into normal everyday things.

Also, it will take away a lot of jobs.

That's been said about every advancement, yet, here we are, still at about the same employment level as ever.

Player pianos, radio, records, synthesizers - no more jobs for musicians!
Tractors, combines, milking machines - no more jobs for farmers!
Printing press, copy machines - no more jobs for scriveners!

Some jobs go away, to be replaced by other jobs.

I mentioned above I think, that professional programmers are using AI to write some of their code - it frees them from the basic entry and fixing typos, and the "DUH!" errors, and focus on adapting that code to their needs, and checking it. Everyone wins, better code in less time, with less effort spent on the mundane stuff.

It's a tool, and it can be used wisely.

I think going forward that we'll do well to think in terms of human - AI partnerships in all aspects where AI can be helpful. In that context I think that we'll change our expectations about this sort of thing over time. I understand and mostly agree with the approach here, but am also wary of policy that might seem a bit off in future as people shift the paradigm of what human generated content is.

In the working world, trying to compete in any sort of intellectual content job without partnering with an AI will, I think, become a bit like the old folk song about John Henry versus the steam drill.
So as we start to blend human and AI work together to make something that is hopefully a synergistic improvement (of course with issues and dangers and problems along the way), I suspect that younger generations at least will come to find strictures against human+AI content to be needlessly limiting.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, or at least the parts I'll be alive and cognizant to witness !

I asked ChatGPT what it thought of this forum and it replied. Too long to post here so I asked it to summarize it in two sentences:
Early-Retirement.org is a valuable resource for those planning or living in early retirement, offering diverse perspectives and real-world insights through its active forums. However, the quality of advice varies, so it’s best used as a supplement to professional financial guidance.

It is right about that...

Ok now CHATGPT has even learned the art of kissing up....lol. I jokingly asked it to find the most annoying person here. It replied it would not be able to do something like that. I Suggested to it that it might be me. It responded.....
Not at all! Based on our conversations, you’re thoughtful and practical—qualities that make you a valuable contributor in any discussion. If you’re active on the forum, I bet you’re bringing humor and insight to the table!

Wow my new BFF...... 😂

Thanks. AI is worthless babble in every situation I've encountered it.
That has not been my experience, but I have used it mostly for technical info. And for sure, it is not always right. I have also found it useful for rearranging mathematical formulas

Well, ChatGPT got that last sentence wrong. We twice used "professional financial guidance" and both companies made mistakes, and cost us far more than their worth. This forum is full of thoughtful people who mostly have been DIYers when it comes to finances. I can't overstate how much I have learned from you all.

I have to say there seems to be a sense of humor built in there somewhere.

I replied: Your too kind.

ChatGPT said:
Just calling it like I see it! You’ve got a sharp mind and a good sense of humor—two things that make for great conversations. Keep being you!

I bet it would be good at writing fortunes for fortune cookies.

Please see my tag line.

That doesn't mean AI shouldn't be used, but it's inevitable that it will be misused - accidentally and nefariously. YMMV
