Do you fly an American flag at your home?

Everyone who files a US flag has made sure it's made in the USA as to match your enthusiastic patriotism, yes?

FWIW I do own a US flag and it was made here in the US and it was not cheap. A 3x5 goes for over $200 these days.

All of the flags that I have flown have been made in the USA. I'll concede that I didn't specifically look for that but that is the way that it worked out and I'll be more careful to make sure of that going forward.

I recently shifted from nylon to polyester which is all weather and supposed to be more durable. The last flag I bought was a little more but it wasn't $200.... it was $40.

No … but my neighbor … also known as Dad … flies one every day. He’s a World War II combat vet. For one of his birthdays we got him and installed in his front yard a 25’ flag pole. We also supplied a large U.S. flag. At 100 years old he flies a U.S. flag every day.

I had to get a "permit" from the HOA to install a flagpole. While I got 20' I think I could have gone as high as 25'. The only rule that I recall is that it had to be at least 5' from the house.

What you wrote is a bit convoluted for me but I'll try to answer. My flying the flag regularly for many years now has nothing to do with my feelings about the direction of politics at any point in time. Nada. I have flown the flag for many years during administrations that I generally agreed with and also during administrations that I vehemently opposed.

I think I probably got it from my Dad, who proudly installed a tall flagpole in the yard at his summer home.

I know you a "little" better than most on this forum; having corresponded with you privately and met you in person multiple times.
Additionally, I know which side of the aisle you support. So that being said, I can see that your love of the flag is absent of politics and is from your heart and convictions.

I have a 20 ft pole in my front yard and flown an American flag for years WITH a POW flag right below it. I was raised in a military family. My father was a B-17 pilot and a POW during WWII. My wife also served in the Coast Guard reserves for 22 years. I can't think of a better way to show my appreciation for them and those who served.

I don't see "upside down flag" to be disgraced. Perhaps politically tinted, which goes along with my sentiments above about how context matters.

But that brings up a good question. When people feel like the founding principles of our country and core freedoms are eroding or being challenged, is flying the flag supporting the direction things are headed, does it not necessarily mean that (and how do others know?) and what is the appropriate display of... we'll call it "concerned patriotism" with regards to the flag and projecting patriotism in general?

I fly the flag BECAUSE of the direction things are headed, although we probably have 180 degree difference as to what that direction is currently. I am just hoping people wake up and we continue to have the freedom to have those differing opinions.

I have flown my US Flag proudly every day since DW and I bought our second and present day house in July of 1991. I was so proud of our efforts to buy such a great house, in a new developement, in a new state and new jobs. We were ling the American dream right after the First Iraq Conflict. Never did We ever think that we would be this successful at that time from our humble backgrouds. What a country! Yes, we have some pimples, warts, and wounds, but it's the best country by far.

My mother's family was only able to afford meat on Sunday, and because DF and her hardwork, enabled DM to die a millionaire. They raised 4 kids, who also worked hard, and also are millionaires.

We all lived the American dream, and are proud to live in this country. Flying the Star -Spangled Banner means nothing more than that. I feel sorry for those feel that flying the flag sends a political message or even a message of disgust.

This is a massive flag we see each time we head up to Prescott AZ from Phoenix. It's so big you can see it from quite a ways down the road. It was in all its glory today. A beautiful site to see!

I like the 'Flags of Freedom" at the Princeton, Illinois exit on I-80. 30'x60' flags on 153' poles at each quadrant of the intersection.

We do at both homes when we are there but not when we are not there because there would not be anyone there to attend to putting it down to half staff when called for and putting it back up, taking it down during severe weather, replacing it when it gets bad, etc.

In Texas we have a 20' flag pole with a solar light at the top. In Vermont we have a porch-mounted flag on out second-story deck with a solar light that is 45 degrees when full staff and 90 degrees when half staff.

Also, I subscribe to a serice that sends me email notifications of when the flag should be flown at half staff.

It makes perfect sense to keep the flag down when you're away. It's too much of a risk for wind damage, and those email alerts are a great way to stay updated on half-staff protocols.

Other than Fox News who seems to have it on 24/7, the other news channels seem to gloss over it and spend more time covering Taylor Swift's MSG do, the earthquake in Venezuela and the World Cup.

Other than the odd T Shirt, I have not seen a flag flying. I think that is a little sad. Maybe tomorrow will be different.

No, I think flags usually represent where they are registered and most cruise ships are not registered in the USA due to cost. This one is registered in Nassau. I will need to look to see.

I really do not think it is a lack of patriotism. I find most US residents, born citizens and naturalized citizens are very patriotic, we are. I do not think not flying a flag has anything to do with not being patriotic. The poll shows an even split if you include on occasion.

Agree. We are very patriotic and love this country overall. However, we would not entertain flying a flag due to other reasons which did not exist years ago.
