Give me a museum and I'll fill it. (Picasso) Give me a forum ...
We bring our own. Soap silvers go into a little baggie that travels with us to use for washing our hands. Shower soap and shampoo we bring our own to use.
Because they don’t work as well as the products you use at home and may even cause irritation? Why not use the soap, shampoo, lotions, etc. provided by the hotel. It saves me from hauling around more bottles, tubes and such.
Most of the hotel/motel chains are switching from those little tiny soaps and shampoos to these:Got home an hour ago from a 56 hour getaway to Santa Barbara and Ojai.
Not only do I use the all their products, I take them home. This trip netted 6 bars of soap and a tiny bottle of shampoo. A few other items found their way into my bag as well. Most trips net 10x that amount.
Back in my 20's I used to go to Vegas every so often with friends or family. At one point I had about 500 bottles (the little kind) from pretty much every hotel that existed in Vegas, as well as the occasional other vacation location. And I don't settle for one bottle per stay, there's ways to get a lot more than one bottle a night. I have a couple cupboards dedicated to housing what I've picked up. I could post some pictures that would garner disdain/admiration depending on your viewpoint.
I don't believe I've ever bought soap or shampoo (and more) in my life. Yes some of you would balk at using stuff that gets old over time but I see no effect using stuff I collected over the years.
Yes they are and it makes it even easier to do what I do.Most of the hotel/motel chains are switching from those little tiny soaps and shampoos to these:

Body wash never works for me. I have to have bar soap. Most of the hotel/motel chains are switching from those little tiny soaps and shampoos to these:

DW likes to collect those little shampoos and soaps, too, but they're getting harder to find nowadays.
Agree that most hotels are switching to the refillable pump bottles. We actually just tossed a collection of dozens of little hotel bottles of shampoo and conditioner since they're all at least 5 years old. Most of the hotel/motel chains are switching from those little tiny soaps and shampoos to these:

Same. I can't stand body wash. It just doesn't work like bar soap. Sometimes for a 1-night stay if I really want to keep my bag light, I'll skip bringing my own and just use the little bar the hotel provides to shower. Even the places that have switched to pumps in the shower all still have bars at the sink.I always bring my own, full-sized, bar of soap. I detest the shower gel pumps that now seem so prevalent in even upscale hostels.
A man after my own heart. I haven't bought any soap / shampoo since 2000 and my stockpile hasn't shrunk in all that time. I suspect I will never buy any again at this rate.Got home an hour ago from a 56 hour getaway to Santa Barbara and Ojai.

This is my experience with the body wash as well. Impossible to lather up. I'll take it for a night or two, but have started to pack my own bar soap for longer trips.Same. I can't stand body wash. I like that they are getting rid of the little radio alarm clocks, ever since I was in a hotel and the alarm went off at 3 am....
My problem with motels is that most of them got rid of the clock radios. I really liked listening to a local rock station in the room if I could find a decent station. And it was nice having a clock in the room. If there is a clock next to the bed, it's one of those new ones with no radio but a bunch of USB ports that I don't need. And now they're getting rid of the in-room phones as well. I stayed at a motel a week and a half ago and there was a phone in the room... but it was dead. Luckily I didn't need to call the front desk.
Ah, Ha! Now I know who has been unplugging the clocks in all the motel rooms. Now I just use my cell phone alarm clock and I make sure the hotel clock is off or unplugged.
