I really enjoy 'The Charismatic Voice, Elizabeth is a classically trained opera singer who over came her bias and is greatly enjoying her exploration of more contemporary music. She reacts to rock and roll, metal, grunge, rap, and much more, she finds greatness in (almost) everything. Joe Walsh was not her thing, but still had some interesting comments.
Elizabeth has studied "the art and science of voice instruction" sometimes describes where the sounds are shaped in the head, neck and chest.
Here is a video I watched recently, Glen Frey singing Lyin Eyes. So smooth.
In this video she analyzes Wierd Al, Doing a parody of Micheal Jackson's 'Bad'
Here's a latest video where she admits the initial bias and tells how much she has learned.
It contains a short ad, about a vocal 'physics' (my word) class she has, but even it makes me think about taking it and I don't sing!
Have fun!

"Overcame her bias"--what clickbait. (Not you, @Time2 , I mean Elizabeth and her YouTube channel.) DW is a classically trained opera singer with a doctorate in vocal pedagogy who has never had bias against other genres and uses music from such other genres to engage her students in some of her courses at a local college. If DW has biases, they are against money-grubbing YouTubers. Too bad, as she could probably earn more from a YouTube channel than from her teaching job.

A friend of mine told me about these YouTube "reaction" videos well over a year ago, and I remember shaking my head and saying something like "Wow... I guess people will watch just about anything." Then, after watching a few of them myself, I still didn't understand it. I guess I just don't really get why anyone finds this entertaining. But, to each his own.. beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that jazz. :)

Sorry to hear you see it that way. She started on Youtube 11 years ago doing mostly operatic videos, about 5 or 6 years ago she expand into other genres.
I'm confused, is DW your dear wife? And it seems your wife had no bias, I think Elizabeth did, her life was opera, maybe less bias than exposure to other genres or even elitism. I told you there was an ad, and I found it interesting rather than intrusive. I think she is starting to have ads in her other videos, she now has at least one small child and I'm sure she has time restraints so, sure increase income where you can. Go Capitalism.

I think all of the "reaction" genre is basically stupid. It's not genuine, it's 99% overacting and not really reacting. Guarantee these folks are rehearsing.

Why would I, or should I, care how someone else reacts? This would be as useless as cat videos. A colossal waste of time.

I was turned off to those videos by inaccurate presentations. For example, one purported to show a live performance of a familiar song. The person reacting said things like, "Wow, what a vocalist! Hitting all those notes while live on stage!" However, the soundtrack was the studio recording.

So much negativity around here lately. I really enjoy some of these videos. I especially like seeing the reactions of younger generations enjoying and commenting on the music I grew up with. It's like sharing that good feeling I get from the music with them. I was always amazed when at work and mentioning some group like Fleetwood Mac and the younger employees reaction was like Fleetwood who? Have to keep in mind most of the younger generation wasn't even born when Fleetwood Mac was popular. Just like I could not name or recognize a Taylor Swift song....I am just stuck in the 80's mostly but do appreciate most other music too. Perhaps I should do some reviews...older dude reviews new music?

I thought the same thing. Just getting clicks off other peoples' music. I saw a couple and then was done with it.

I think Elizabeth's channel is good in that she describes some techniques the singers are using, so you can learn a little about how to listen. She even had some where she worked with a university and they put a camera into a guy's throat. He was famous in his genre (some kind of heavy metal) for making odd scream sounds. They saw his vocal cords doing never-before-seen tricks. So her channel can be educational. But a little goes a long way.

I tried some other reaction videos and thought they were mostly silly, people with no talent critiquing actual talented musicians or maybe just gushing about how great they are.

Yeah, I admit I watch them. I seem to have made it a hobby of watching all of the different reactions to Fleetwood Mac's Silver Springs where Stevie is practically screaming at Lindsey while they're singing the chorus.

Yes, i enjoy them. Some seem disingenuous, but other seem authentic. I think I like them as they confirm that the music of the 70's and 80's was fantastic. Seeing somone in their 20's geek out over the vocals of Pat Benatar or get the songs of Bob Segar is fun.

It also has allowed me to appreciate the music I like which is
1940's (jazz, pop, standards and big band)
70's and 80's funk, disco, rock and pop
80's and 90's country
Oh, and classical.

Pop and Hip-Hop from the last 25 years does nothing for me, modern Country is faux Country.

as with most things , i've found there are a few entertaining ones along with many that are not

I agree. I’ve watched a few and not a big fan either but my DB finds them extremely entertaining. I also marvel at the younger generation enjoying “our” music. This would never happen without internet access and archives. But yes, people will watch anything.

Yes, I love reaction to music videos.

My favorite is Andy and Alex - a couple of young guys who hear "old" music for the first time. I've often wondered what young people think of "my" music. Here is an example:

Here's another one - I watch it less often, but I think this example is good.
