I really liked Ken Burns' "The West" but mostly not the others.

I like largely history and astronomy-related documentaries and there are some good ones on youtube FWIW.

Also Peter Coyote and Orson Welles are the greatest narrators ever.

And I REALLY miss the Biography channel biographies and how they aren't avail for purchase. wth?

Not everyone would classify it as a documentary, but I enjoyed The Beach Boys on Disney+.

I'm a long-time fan and they clearly skipped a few things - the decline of Dennis, death of Carl, the extent of Brian's mental problems and Mike Love's litigation. To be fair, it's at least one Russian novel to cover everything with them. For the two hours, I didn't think they left out anything that material to the history of the group.

And I was glad to see Love and Jardine acknowledge their early music still has appeal today as it describes a simpler more optimistic life. Which is how I feel when I've heard it each time over last 50+ years, and why I still put it on today :)

? Sounds like a documentary to me. I never got into their music, but get their place in it and it sounds like an interesting documentary. Silly side note, I recall their cameo on Home Improvement. :)

Yeah, I'm a sucker for most documentaries. I love history and geography. I like to learn more about people, places and things that I have enjoyed over the years.

Agree that Peter Coyote is an excellent narrator.

Ken Burns could do a documentary on dirt and I'd watch it. I have watched at least one of his documentaries twice: Country Music. I'd like to watch others again, too, including The American Buffalo, and maybe Hemingway. So many interesting facts packed into these multi-part epics.

I can't wait for his The American Revolution, due out next year. Leonardo da Vinci will apparently be out first.

I'm a documentary addict:
Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes
Laurel Canyon
Several Ken Burns
Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story
Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold
The Last Movie Stars (Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward)
Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple
Too many to mention. Obviously interested in people and their lives, failures and successes.

That sounds interesting. I caught part of American Buffalo awhile back but haven't seen it on since.

There are a lot of biographies on youtube FYI...

Locally with rabbit ear antenna we get something called Story channel. On Sunday they have biographies. This past Sunday they had one on Charles Darwin which was fascinating.

We enjoyed the Ken Burns series on WWII & country music.
Carrier about the US Nimitz
And a PBS series about birds & other flying creatures that I can't remember the name nor find it in a search. They had drones, or maybe attached cameras to the birds, something different about the video they had of the flying. Different bird every episode. The only non-birds I remember were these mantas that jump out of the ocean.

I have rabbit ears but not that channel. Shoot!

This? Winged Migration (2001) ⭐ 7.9 | Documentary I have the DVD. Yeah that is impressive cinematography.

Military, Navy and WWII buffs will especially enjoy Victory At Sea, a 26-part history of the US Navy during WWII. It's currenrly available on YouTube. Originally broadcast on NBC in the 50's (Sunday nights if I recall correctly) it was later adapted into a feature film. As a boy I couldn't wait for the next installment.

Picked up the boxed set at a resale shop for $2. I always enjoyed it on TV. It's been rebroadcast several times.

Nice! That reminds me of one of my all-time favorite shows, "Wings." So (so) PO'd at the Discovery Channel people for not preserving and selling that series, although some are on youtube.

I went on a "fiscal malfeasance" binge, both reading and viewing, so in the last few years I enjoyed watching
  • Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
  • The Dropout (Theranos)
  • Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street
  • FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened
  • WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn.
And outside of that, off the top of my head: Brats (the Brat Pack doc), and Lucy and Desi.
